I made the jump to X-10 and bought a couple of modules and the IR543 IR reciever from Smarthome.com. I got the IR543 yesterday and it's in white in color. Being that this is going in my A/V rack for controling room lighting, it sticks out like a snow ball in a coal bin. I contacted smarthome.com and they said that the manufacture made a change and didn't tell them. Their web site as well as their catalog show black. Are there any other places that carry this item?

Mine is black with white buttons. If you want one just like it...

There are 4 screws on the bottom. Unplug your unit, remove the screws, take apart the case. Spray paint it black (or any color you want) with any spray paint that say's it will paint plastic. Let dry thoroughly. Reassemble. Problem solved.

Mine came in last week in white also. Since I'm only using it with my remote, I went to radio shack and picked up a black plastic sheath to put it in (obviously leaving the front exposed). Give it a try.

That's quite odd. I wonder why they switched to white plastic?

Daniel: "I wonder why they switched to white plastic?"

David: The buttons were already white. Consistancy.
David: They ran out of black.
David: It's winter. White is a winter color.
David: They really want to quit making them, but demand is too high. Hopefully, white will lower the demand. Seems to be working.
David: They noticed they could turn off 90% of the lights in the factory if white cases were used. Easier to assemble in the dark.
David: They mistakenly assumed white was going to be the next designer color of home A/V equipment.
David: It's really BLACK plastic, just a lighter shade of black.
David: Oops! Pressed the wrong button at the parts factory.
David: Customer Service employees complained of too little work to do. Assumed white would stimulate complaints and keep employees happy.
David: Mrs. X10 wanted white. Mrs. X10 ALWAYS gets what she wants.

Could be.

Or, the simple answer:

* They can now put the phrase "New & Improved!" on the package.
