I've finally narrowed my receiver search down to either the Denon 5700 or the 3600.
I'm torn. I like the usability features of the DENON 3600 (front panel buttons and volume display), but, am I really buying old technology with this receiver. I will never have 7.1 speakers in my system, as I do not have the space. Is the 5700 really worth the difference in price???

At this point, I'd go for the 5700. It's supposed to be really good. If I had the cash right now, that's the one I'd upgrade to.

dj I have the 5700 and love it, but I think the 3600 is a good piece and would highly recomend it. This way you could buy a Pronto to go with it because the Denon remotes are terrible! If switching surround speakers through the remote, componet video switching and 7.1 inputs are not a concern then get the 3600.
I assume you are talking about the DTS 3600 but you may find a good deal on a last years 3600 with no DTS if this isn't a concern. One thing to note is the # of digital inputs on the 5700 even if you think you might not need them now, think future. I use 2 for satelite 1 for DVD 1 for LD 1 for CD and the in and out for Mini Disc recording

Thanks for the input! I think I will spring for the 5700! I can get it for $2,084 which is from an authorized dealer and I think this is a reasonable price after searching the net.

I too hate the Denon Remote and have already traded in my Marantz RC2000 MKII for a $125 credit on a Pronto. Not too bad a deal, considering.

DJ,

Are you buying the 5700 from someone on the NET ? I'm looking and can't seem to get that good of a price.

Thanks in advance.

No. I couldn't seem to find that kind of price either, although I've read people saying that it can be had for as little as $1999. I got this price from a dealer in Illinois (who is an authorized Denon Dealer - so no warranty problems) whom I found while looking for my Paradigm Ref Studio 100 Speakers. I spoke to a man who gave me that price, however, when I called back they said I must have spoken to the owner, because that was an awfully low price. They said they would ship it, however, they would have to check with the owner on the price. If it actually ships for that price, I will post here where I bought it from. I thought the $2,084 was an unusual number, that's why I remembered it, so, I hope no mistake was made.

Anyway...anyone check out the info on the New Pioneer Elite VSX-29TX!! It looks like it will be an awesome receiver as well. I saw info at
[Link: 4electronicwarehouse.com]. It also comes with an incredible looking remote with touch screen and dials. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a better deal than the DENON after all my research. It's not out yet though and DENON still has 5-channel stereo - so, I think I'll be happy with my current choice.

I did get my receiver at that price. I bought it from Sounds Deluxe in Naperville Illinois. My salesman was Bill, who was very helpful with everything. However, the price I got was given to me by the owner, and I don't really have their permission to be handing this info out, so, I figure it's up to them if they want to sell it for that price. Anyway, lots of luck!
