Whenever I press a button, the set flashes once with the TV button. It will occasionally allow the command through, but not all the time. The DVD and VCR buttons are programed to a DVD/VCR combo (sony) with each button changing the players mode. The TV is a Toshiba and is around 17 years old-the code works from the manual. The DTV converter was programed in manually (learn function). Would any of those cause any problems after half a year of no problems? Can I fix it, or should I just get a new remote?

Sounds like the remote is locked.

Nope, it is not locked. As I said, it will allow a command to go through occasionally. A locked remote is not supposed to do that. I tried anyway, and the problem is still there.
Thanks anyway.

I was just looking at it, and it appears that it is occurring on the DVD and VCR buttons immediately and the TV channel up button works as does the channel down. Unfortunately the volume controls don't work, so it isn't just part of the remote. I would make a video, but I don't know how to post the video on these forums.

It is not doing the factory reset either.

You've replaced the batteries, right?

Thats always possible. I am hoping to get new batteries soon (the current pair is rechargeable and a few years old).

It works now, but why does it do that when the batteries aren't charged enough?
