I read the review but it did not say if this was available for purchase.

Can this remote be purchased anywhere?

I could not find anything on Sony's site.

Thanks
Jeff

Not yet. I'm not exactly sure when either as it wasn't disclosed - soon, though.

Amazon.com now has this remote for pre-order. I called Sony Sales and they could not tell me when it would be released.

Just found ABT Electronics lists this in stock. Sony's site still does not list it.

A Google shopping search found this but no other electronics stores listed this as available. Amazon still lists it as pre-order. The only thing I make of this is wide spread availability must be close.

Thanks for your post R/L. I ordered it from ABT this morning and even though I wonder why ABT is the only one that has it in stock, the order went through as "In Stock". I ordered it online but called to verify it first.

Does it work with Sony Blu-Ray players? That is my main concern.

I don't know yet. But it's a new Sony remote and has a BD button, so I'd say "yes" is pretty much a certainty.

Picked one of these remotes up over the weekend at a Sony Outlet Store for $24.99 - they are out there.

I was hoping this remote had a flat bottom like the RM-VL600, but it is contoured like the 610. The loss of TAPE/MD codes sucked as well, but that's what manual learning is for.

The 620 learn function doesn't work at all if the instructions are followed using the manual.
I had ordered the 600 from bestbuy and they sent me the 620 instead.
Without the learning function the 620 is useless.

The RM-VLZ620 succeeded in all aspects of programming which I attempted This included teaching it commands from an ancient remote for an original, still functioning 29 year old RCA (Hitachi) three gun front projection set.

Over the years I had become concerned that if my original remote for the above ever failed (as they were unavailable) from hard use by two boys I would be SOL. Any learning remote I researched was way too expensive hence I did nothing until I checked once more and the Sony RM-VL700S was available for a very reasonable price. I easily taught the RCA remote to it and ten years later was able to do so as easily with the RM-VLZ620.

I also tested code entry on a Sharp LC52E77UN and a Yamaha YAZ71 sound bar. Both worked perfectly and the feature where the remote controls the audio component volume in lieu of the TV did also.

I actually purchased this (Amazon) for my age 86 mother-in-law for a Sharp LC46E810UN, a Sony HT-CT350 sound bar, Sony DVD/VCR and Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVR cable box. The after market remote the cable company provided was completely unintuitive and did not control the Sony Sound Bar volume. The TV has NetFlix built in and that of course required the Sharp remote. Having to use the Sony SLVD360P remote completely ticked everyone off!!!

I plan to set up all the above this weekend and will report back......

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. Have used it in the past to look up info on various sony remotes I have owned, and it's been a fantactic resource!

Anyway, I just decided to register so I could post something I just discovered about the RM-VLZ620 that I haven't seen anyone mention yet.

I was programing my new remote to do what my old one did (RM-VL600) when I ran into something odd - The system control macros no longer leave the last component that was used in the sequence as the active device. Instead, after pressing the system control button, control is returned to the device that was being used before the system control button was pressed.

I've never owned a VL610, but in looking at the review on this site, it seems to share the 'old' behavior of my VL600.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I find the 'new' VLZ620 behavior unfortunate, because of how I was using some of my macro keys on my VL600. These functions can no longer be duplicated on the VLZ620.

One question that comes to mind is, can anyone confirm this behavior? I'm hoping that maybe the one I have is defective, and that sony really haven't changed what I considered to be a useful feature of the macro keys.

Thanks,
-Gary

I've come to the conclusion that the system control button change, which returns to the last device in control after executing, was intentional and not just a fluke on my remote.

I can see some advantages of always returning to the previously selected device, but it sure would be nice there was a way to optionally skip this 'feature'. Some of the system control button programming I've trasferred from my 600 is not nearly as convenient now that I have to press the intended new active device button myself after the macro has been sent.

Please reply if you find something different than the above described behaviour or if you have found a way to make it work like the VL600 does.

Thanks,
Gary
