I am about to get my Samsung HLN4365W upgraded to accept discrete codes, and am wondering how to get them into my AV3000. The info I have seen posted from samsung shows "discrete codes" not advanced codes...these are "hex" I believe. I have done some research and thought that I could use a radio shack or OFA remote to learn my AV3000, but I`m not sure that those remotes will accept a hex code. I was hoping not to have to use my computer and this JP1 stuff..can anyone advise me what I will have to do..I will be spending a fair amount of money to get the upgrade done to the tv and if it is going to a pain in the a$$ to get the codes to work I may reconsider the upgrade... here is a link to the codes that samsung issued, just in case it will help you help me [Link: avsforum.com]

Thanks in advance.

Advanced codes can be as simple as you want them to be. Some advanced codes can also be discrete, meaning they will perform only one operation, such as ON, or OFF. You will need a Radio Shack or a OneForAll remote to be able to gain access to advanced codes and send them to your learning remote. An advanced code is a 3 digit code that you take from a list of advanced codes (the reference below will help you get there). Then, you assign the setup code you are working with to the OFA/RS remote. Next, you hit the Setup (or similarly designated) button. Then the 3 digits. This sends a command to either your learning remote or to the component. Either way, you have created a command which will allow you to perform operations not available on the original remote. In spite of what some will tell you, you do not need to go into advanced procedures like jp1 or computer interfaces if all you want is some discrete on/off codes and a few others because just about everything you will need will be available.

This is the latest list of remotes which will accept advanced/discrete codes:
Radio Shack (current as of December 2004): 15-2103, 15-2116, 15-2133, 15-2142 (no amp function key)(uses 5 digit EFC so put 00 in front)
OneForAll (OFA): (Current as of November 05) The newer OFA remotes now take 5 digit advanced codes, so if you see a list of 3 digit codes, just add two zeroes to the FRONT of them. The current line up OFA remotes include urc-6820, 8820, 10820, 6690, and the 9964.

Just to clarify, hex codes are for the Philips Pronto.

Hi Ron,
I have now figured out with your help how to program the AV3000 utilizing the System Controls, but I still would like to have direct control of the 910's video imputs. I bought the RS2103 and programed the Sony code (0000) which now controls the basic TV functions. Now I'm ready to be clued in how I can utilize the 2103 to give me control of the Video inputs by way of the 3000.
Thanks,
Michael

Go here http://www.hifi-remote.com Click on Setup Codes, find the Sony TV code (0000), then click on Advanced Code List, go to TV, click on 0000, and you will see all the discrete codes available.

Find the one you want to use, for example Video 5 is 162. Put the 3000 in learn mode, press the key you want to teach to, then (the rest of this sentence was edited for clarity after I read edmund’s response below and found out it needed more info) on the Radio Shack/OFA remote, press setup or “P” and 1-6-2, and it will send the signal to your 3000 for that code. Now you have a discrete video 5 signal, and can use it by itself, put it in a macro, or both. You already have video 1-4 discretes on the 3000, but if you wanted them on another key you would do the same thing for them. There is no video 7, so you need to use video 6 and one tv/input key to get you to video 7. You can do this with a micro-macro-see this thread [Link: remotecentral.com]

If you want to put the code permanently into your RS/OFA remote for future use, you can use the keymove procedure to assign it to a specific key. Since this procedure varies for different remotes, I will give the most commonly used procedures here, since they are not always outlined in the manual.

Most remotes without lcd screens:

Press and hold "p or setup" until it blinks, then release
press 9-9-4
press the device key (in this case, the TV key)
press "p or setup" once
press the 3 digit advanced/discrete code (on 15-2142 put 00 in front of all 3 digit codes EX: 00053)
press the device button
press the key you want to use, which will then have the advanced/discrete code you assigned permanently entered

Now, you have permanently assigned the pip split function to that key. If there are any more advanced/discrete codes on the list that you want to use, just repeat.

To delete a keymoved code:
Press and hold "p or setup" until it blinks
press 9-9-4
press the device key
press key twice

Radio Shack 15-2116 and similar remotes

1) Hold SETUP (green P), till screen reads "CODE SET"
2) Scroll down to "KEYMOVER",
3) Press SELECT, screen reads "FROM MODE"
4) Press the device button the code is coming from, screen
reads "FROM KEY"
5) Press SETUP, screen reads "SYNT"
6) Type the 3 digit advanced code (in this case 0-5-3)
7) Press SELECT, screen reads "TO MODE"
8) Press the device button the code is going to, screen reads "TO KEY"
9) Press the button you are trying to program, screen reads "SUCCESS"

In the message above you say put the 3000 in learn mode and then you can program it with a discrete code. Is this right? I thought you need to program the Radio Shack remote with the discrete code first and then learn it to the 3000?

In the example, the line "then press setup and 1-6-2", is on the ofa/rs remote. Yes you need another remote to program the discretes.
