I don't have experience with DIVX players, and I doubt others here do either. Unless RCA changed their basic codes it should operate the same as an Open DVD player. If they did, there'll still be no problems learning it.

Kevin I would just like to thank you for the support of divx. I am glad to know there are people out there willing to buy into the concept that we should pay everytime we choose to watch a movie, play a cd, use a computer application on a pc, play a video game, and many more different types of options there will be in the future for pay per use. I surely hope that the AV2000 does not work on your divx player because sony does not support the divx concept. By the way Daniel I am sorry in advance for this post to Kevin.

Ordered an AV-2000. Does anyone know if I can program it to control X-10 devices (for lights, etc.)? Do I need an IR to X-10 converter of some kind?

P.S. DIVX will die a quick, painful (to it's supporters) death.

I am pretty involved with home automation in general, and X-10 in particular. Although I don't claim to be the ultimate authority on your question, from what I know, you can proceed in one of two directions:

1) get one of the X-10, radio shack or other clones that have an "x-10" button, and use it in conjuntion with an x-10 transceiver. Since the AV-2000 cannot learn RF signals, you will not be able to use it.

2) get on of the x-10, radio shack or other clones that have an "x-10" button, then purchase an IR-543 (made by x-10). There is usually an option on these remotes (I know there is on the ones made by x-10: UR19A; UR24A) to switch them to infrared transmitting. Learn the codes from these into the AV-2000. Then you point the AV-2000 at the IR-543, which transmits the appropriate x-10 codes on your power lines. However, you are limited in number of x-10 addresses, and the functions.

Hope this helps.

P.S.

Unfortunately, as the post from Kevin shows, some people will buy DIVX, and I don't see a quick painful death, but a SLOW painful death because of sporadic support. We can only hope that people will realize what a ripoff it truly is.

Sorry to hear about the Divx...it will look my CD-i..

About the unrelated X-10 issue...Radio Shack has an Infrared receiver which translate to the X-10 through your AC system but I recommend that you pay a visit to the source: x-10.com
