I've had an AV3000 remote for about 6 years. It has been in storage for about 2 years, and I brought it out the other day because I got some new equipment and decided that it may be the remote to use for my setup. I put new batteries in it and it powered up. When I hit the commander and muting buttons to program it I get NOTHING. I've held them down for 5-10-15 seconds with no response. If my memory serves me correctly the last time I programmed it, everything seemed to work fine. Is there any kind of self test that the unit can do to see that all of the buttons are working correctly? I'm wondering it there's a global reset to do that may fix this problem. I've tried multiple times with NO success. Has anyone else ever experienced this issue?

Try this procedure from the Programming Guide:

Remove at least one battery from the remote. Now, while holding the [VOLUME-] and [CHANNEL-] keys simultaneously, re-install the batteries and then release those two keys. The remote will display "EEPRON TEST OK SPI" on screen and flash the transmission icon continually. Again, remove at least one battery, re-install it, and the remote is cleared.

Hope this works for you. Good luck!

Ron, I haven't tried your procedure yet, but just one more thing to note. When I got home the other day, I rechecked the remote and found out something that may be of interest. The only buttons that aren't working are the black ones. All of the round white buttons under the display work, and the display lcd buttons work too, but none of the other buttons work - channel up/down - volume - commander off - menu - mute etc....However when I tried to configure by hitting the commander and mute button,...as soon as I hit the commander button the display went blank, so there's some connection going on there.

I took the remote apart and checked the number pad to see if there was a connection issue or something - all appeared to be ok - no corrosion or dirt etc - I put it all back together and got the same results. Keep in mind that like I said above, the white buttons work, and they're part of the same button assembly - I will try the procedure tonight for the default and see what happens.
