I know there is no preset code for the directv dvr for these remotes. I used the directv remote to teach the Sony remotes.

Here is where it gets wierd.

If I hit the scroll down (or up) button or change the channel up or down, the dvr responds by repeatedly scrolling. I only hit the button for a moment to change to the next channel or next page but it keeps scrolling.

If I am in a menu and push the down arrow it goes to the end of the menu then you hear the beep from the unit (not the remote) that tells me the button is constantly being depressed.

I called Sony and was told to send them in for repair.

I explained to them that its not 1 remote doing this, I have 3 and they all do the same thing.

Anyone have any ideas what is causing this?

Sounds like IR interference in the room, maybe another remote stuck under cushion or book? Or CFL light bulbs? Try standing just in front to shield the receiver from other IR signals and then try thr remotes.

Also try reteaching, just tap the directv button when teaching do not hold. Only key you should hold is repeating commands like volume.

Edmund is right that this is exactly what you should try next, but I don't generally recommend tap learning right from the outset, as these remotes were designed to learn repeating signals (and OEM remotes almost all transmit repeating signals, whether it's needed or not).
