Does anyone know of where I can get a CHEAP remote for the SONY RDR-VX500 dvd recorder/vcr combo. They are around $80 on line. A USED one or a universal will work also. My PHILIPS brand universal does NOT list that particular combo. A dvd/vcr combo codes do not work, nor does the long code search work. Any help welcome. [email protected]

The following remotes will work; probably there are others, but I'm sure about these. Some of these are available on-line and sometimes used.
OneForAll URC-8820/10820 (< $20 at Sears)
Comcast 1067BX3 (Silver remote with red OK/Select button)
RCA RCRP05B ($20 at Best Buy, Walgreens may have it on special at $15 now)
Vizio VUR8

If you are in Europe, there's a different set of OneForAll remotes.

Setup code video (DVD) 1070 will control most functions; use 21070 for Comcast or Vizio.

Perhaps a few functions that you want won't be generated by 1070. You can program in those functions yourself.

To do that, make sure you have 1070 setup on DVD (or video) and that the remote is in that mode. Here's an example of how to program--let's say assigning "one touch dubbing" to the PIP button

1) Press Setup until 2 blinks (or Set or Magic--whatever is used to assign the setup code.)
2) Enter 994 (this is the keymove command--the remote will blink twice)
3) Press Setup briefly
4) Enter 60062 (this is the EFC for one touch dubbing)
5) Press PIP
The remote will blink twice.
You can effectively double the number of available buttons by utilizing the capability-- to assign that, press Setup before step 5).  To use shifted PIP, for example use the two press sequence   .  With the digit buttons, it is necessary to press Setup twice before the digit button when using, but not when assigning.

3fg--- Is my logic correct in saying that if a particular dvd/vhs combo has DVD RECORDING ability that the tray should say so or use the dvd r/rw logo or use the word RECORDABLE as opposed to the dvd video (playing only) logo? Is there a way to tell if the dvd records based on model #? DVDR/ DVR/ or other prefix? [email protected]
