I recently made a trip to Best Buy and found a killer open box Sony BlueRay player for $44, the only catch was that it had no remote. So I figured I can spend $20 and order one directly from Sony.com, but then one of the workers told me that a Sony Universal remote will work with their BluRays. So I bought one of those for $25 instead. In the end, I cannot for the life of me program this remote to work with the BluRay player.

tl;dr
I'm trying to program a Sony RM-VL600 to work with a BDP-S360 Sony BluRay player. Please help!

I've been browsing the forums and I think I found my answer, and that is that it's impossible to program the Sony VL600 to work with a Sony BDP-S360 BluRay without the BluRay remote or another universal remote.

I just want a little closure on this though.. A Sony remote, DOESN'T have the capability to work with a Sony product? I'm really confused here.. the sad part is after buying the player/movies/cables, etc I cannot watch movies because there are no on-board menu controls for the BluRay player.

If anyone has ANY suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it!

A Sony VL600 was designed before the Blu-Ray players came out, so it doesn't have a setup code which will work.

There is a new Sony remote RM-VLZ620, which will probably work, but it hasn't hit stores yet.

My recommendation is to return the VL600 to Best Buy, and exchange it for the $20 RCA RCRP05B instead. (Or buy the 8 device OneForAll URC-8820N at Sears.) Use setup code Video 1516. These remote have better coverage using setup codes than Sony remotes, and can also allow you to individually program the buttons to handle discrete functions, etc, which aren't in the original remote.

On the other hand, the Sony remotes excel at learning.

I have the Sony RM-VLZ620 remote and it works perfectly with my Sony BDP-S360 Blu-Ray player. It is available at ABT.com. I only have it a few days but I have set it up with all my A/V equipment and it is amazing. It has to be the best universal remote that Sony has released!
