I am looking into getting a universal remote and I do have to consider cost when making a decision. When considering price, functionality, ease of use, and limitations which remote is the way to go Sony, Marantz, or the new Pronto. Does the sony take more than one screen for some units?

I have a Yamaha 795 receiver, Yamaha 665 CD, RCA DSS, Sony VCR, and Panasonic superflat TV. If I purchase one of these remotes can the individual remotes be put away in a hard to find spot or will I need them for something? Any information that you can give me would be appreciated.

I know that the Sony is the cheapest and the Pronto is the most expensive but does the extra cash get you benefits?

Eric,

I recently purchased both the Sony 2000 and the Marantz remotes. Spent two nights programming each with my six components.

After just a few days, I returned the Marantz. The Sony is much easier to use. Although the Marantz can _completely_ replace your other remotes, the programmable function keys have a very poor interface. You can only name any function with a four character label. The labels are quite difficult to read. I thought I would like the Marantz because it looks like it can fit in one hand, but the layout causes you to use two hands anyway.

The Sony's layout is more consistent from component to component and the labels are much easier to read. The only drawback with the Sony is that you cannot relabel any keys. I have had to assign about three or four functions to keys with a different label and just remember what they stand for. But it works great.

The layout works great sitting on a coffee table or your thigh. You can work most functions without even picking it up.

Get the Sony.
