I haven't heard whether this uses traditional DVD & VCR codes, but if none of the Sony codes for those devices work, then I'd have to guess that they changed something.

Today I went to a Sony store and they said my remote can't control my combined Sony DVD/VCR, it did work however on their in store Sony VCR and DVD machines.

They said I could buy one of their Sony Universal remotes which could be programmed to contol it. I'm still unclear as to why my RM-Y180 can't do same. In any case I've decide to "live with it".

If it's a new code set for Sony, then older (and likely even current) Sony remotes won't work with it. Plus, as your existing remote can't learn commands, there's absolutely nothing that can be done to make it work with things it doesn't know about.

Can you recommend a good code learning remote? Thanks
Don

Well, depends on your price range. For under $80 and sticking to Sony, you could try the RM-VL1000, RM-VL900 (good value here) and RM-VL700 (capable but not as good value as VL900).

Thanks for reply. The RM-VL700 was the one they suggested. I will likely get the 900. The the 1000 is more than I can figure out, Although it sure looks nice.

If you can, see both. The VL900 is a fairly "large" remote, considering.
