From what I've read so far, I think this product is ok. Just one question, what about when the battery dies down, does it have any backup battery or would I have to re-programme it?

As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to lose it's program even with *no* power. Problem is, I haven't tested more than 6 hours or so, and that was an accident.

According to the manual, and Sony customer service, if you leave the batteries out of the remote for over 24hrs it will lost all of its programmed memory.

Hmm, I wouldn't actually want to test that. However, on the remote that came with my Sony GA8ES receiver I followed their directions to clear the memory and it just wouldn't work. They said take the batteries out, press all buttons (to drain power) and then it'll be clear. Ha! I did that, left it over a weekend without barreries and it still retained the program.
