I just saw it on saturday at Kromer Radio on Bathurst St in Toronto (priced around $200-$250 cdn as I recall)

I am now debating between it and the SL-9000... which isn't on this site anywhere to my disappointment.

Cheers all!

Chances are, Kromer has picked up a pile from the States - there's nothing to stop them from doing it, but technically it's gray market as Sony of Canada still doesn't officially sell it. I'm glad to see them doing this however, as I can see no reason why Sony shouldn't sell them up here.

What exactly is the SL-9000, and who makes it?

It's the follow-up to the SL-8000 (of course) by Universal Remote Control... it received a favourable review from Home Theatre magazine (of course.. do they ever give bad reviews :) )

link to the review is here.

Another remote showing up in the magazines is the Home Producer 8, which has the interesting feature of being able to transmit IR and RF signals!!

I've seen this for sale here

Cheers, and thanks for a great site!!

Indeed the Universal Electronics Home Producer 8 does transmit RF and IR. However, the mfr's info
states that it will only control IR-based DSS units. The RF is for its 'repeater' function.

I've been using one rather happily for some time now, though I'm about to get a RM-AV2000 and do a head-to-head comparo.

Well ... considering that The Sony Store sells the AV2000 I can't see how you're saying it's gray market. But Kromer Radio does have the best price at $199Cdn. The Sony Store sells it for $250.

The Sony Store in Canada is selling it? My local one in Toronto doesn't have it yet, and when I spoke to them a month ago they commented that they found it strange that they wern't allowed to sell it.

Perhaps that's changed in the last month. The Sony store always prices their products at MSRP (or Sony's equivelant "lowest advertised price"), so the prices you're quoting to seem in line. Next time I'm there I'll check into it.

I've seen them at some smaller Chinese tv stores in the GTA also. They vanished quite quickly. The selling price was $230 including taxes.

I picked mine up at Kromer today ($199+tax) and the guy was telling me that 100 enter Canada per month and Kromer gets 40. And they _FLY_. I managed to get their last or next-to-last in stock, and they said they will probably order a lot more for X-mas.

I'm just starting to program it, but it looks like a fun device.
