i also have some difficulty with the 3100 'rec' button not working when i try to set it under component 'dvd' for a dvd recorder. a light tap of the newly 'learnt' button and it doesnt even beep. yet it shows as learnt when you re-enter the learning screen

any ideas?

You have to hold down the rec buton for a couple seconds before it sends out the signal, (so you dont accidently record over something.
I think you can change that though. Or you can learn the record to a relabled button.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

I'ts called, in infinite Sony wisdom, Adjusting the beam interval, and it's on page 86 of the manual.

Commander off/muting
Press set two times Press mode key
Press sys delay
Select your component name
Press "key"
Keys will flash
Press the key you want to adjust
No delay-doesn't flash
1 second delay-flashes
2 second delay-flashes slowly

This is intended to prevent accidental operation, so you can leave it on 1 second if you want to, or set it to operate with the first press of the button.
