Just got a RM-VL1000, and it's working great for individual button mapping, and I've been able to duplicate/eliminate the three remotes I had.

I'm getting ready to get my feet wet in macros... currently the family (six people) consults a piece of paper showing the various input/output settings for the TV and HTIB. To achieve these settings on both the TV and the HTIB requires pressing the TV/Video andr Function button until the right setting appears on the display. (e.g. no discretes)

It seems to me it will be impossible to create macros such as "watch TV" or "watch DVD" unless I can either use discretes or force the components into known states so the macro can rotate through the choices a known number of times to land on the desired setting.

It appears discretes are out of the question for this remote. Even if I knew them, I don't know how to get them into the RM-VL1000.

I can't figure out how to get both the TV and the HTIB into a known state. Maybe somebody does?

Thanks,

Norton

Need to know manufacturer and model number of your TV and HTIB, and also any other components you might want to add in.

I can't even start to think of an answer without that information.

The TV is easy. Pressing the channel up/down button or any channel button should get you back to the TV input. Then, you can just make the macro using the correct amount of TV/Video button inputs to get you where you want to go. Remember, your TV probably has the ability to skip inputs you are not using, so take that into account when you make your macro.

The HTIB is harder, and the model number is actually DAV-S300, which is the Dream System, meaning you had to learn everything, right?

I can't make heads or tails out of the manual, so you will have to figure it out for yourself if you can.

The instructions on page 66 for the remote says that the function button #3 selects the component you want to use and refers you to pages 53 and 54, but when I get there I don't see anything that helps me.

If you can figure out how to select the component and get that info into the 1000 you might have a chance of making a macro. It will be easier for you to figure out with the remote and receiver available than it is for me by reading a manual I don't understand.

Good luck and let me know how you make out.

Ron,

Thank you very much for your time spent on this. I can see now how I can get the TV to the right inputs.

I think I may be able to pull a similar trick on the HTIB. (Yes, I did "learn" the commands for that one) I've noticed there is an IR command (can't remember which one) which forces the unit into AM/FM radio tuner mode. From there, I can do a similar count through the modes to get to the desired one.

If anyone is interested I can post the results.

Thanks again, Ron.

Using the channel changer to force the TV to a known input state works perfectly. Also, the "Band" function on the HTIB forces it to a known state, allowing me to rotate through Video1, Video2, DVD, etc. as needed depending on my source selection for the macro.

I'm fighting some gremlins - macros that work perfectly seem to fail after I create or edit other macros. I don't know yet if this is due to some changes occuring in the remote, or coincidental randomness in the ability of the remote to control 3-4 different devices with timings, IR noise, etc.

But the original problem is solved and I'm on my way. Thanks again, Ron.
