Just got a RM-AV2100 and am trying to program it. I have a couple of questions, and googled this website.

I have a 5 year old Sharp TV set. I found that while code searching, certain codes work when I hit the power button, but once I accept it and program it into the remote, I come back to the programmed setting and the power button does not power the tv on and off. Somewhat frustrating and after reading the manual, somewhat baffled by it working while programming, and then not working once it is programmed. Hope that is making sense.

Second problem that I had was that I have a Sony STR-DE685 Amp and while certain codes make SOME of the buttons work, others don't. Power button, volume buttons, etc. Then I go to try to 'learn' them, and they do not flash (per the manual, that means that they cannot be programmed). Once again, irritating.

I know I am a noob at this, so I ask someone who is a remote nerd to assist.

Thanks.

Don't any of the 3 preset codes for your Sharp TV work? If you have the original remote you can learn everything and eliminate the code search or missing function problem. Does your TV use the same button for power on and off? Also, try using another button, like channel up or down (with the TV on, of course) when doing the search, and see if this works better.

For your receiver, you may need to change the command mode on the receiver and remote. Click here to learn how to change your Sony receiver (and its remote) to AV1 (or AV2) Command Mode

If this helps, you will still have to learn some functions because not all functions are included in the preset code.

I don't understand the part about not being able to learn them. When you put the 2100 in learn mode, the buttons available for learning should flash, and then when you press the button you want to use to learn the code from from the other remote, it will become solid until the command is learned. If it does not flash, it means you have learned a command on that button, and you will need to delete the learned command before you can learn another one.

I hope I have gotten you started on a solution for your problems, but if you still have questions, let us know.

Thanks Ron. I seem to have learned codes on some of the buttons. I did not put them there, but I bought the remote used on eBay so this may be why. I guess I will have to see how to delete them so that I may reprogram them.

The problem with the TV still exists, and unfortunately I do not have the original remote. I believe I can program the remote that came with my STR-DE685 amp to work with the TV, then I can use that to learn the commands.

When I get home, I will try this and let you know in the next few days if it worked. Thanks for your help.
