I just purchased the Sony AV3100 remote (still in the box-came today) and noticed the AX4000 for only $40 more. I use a Mac at home so the 4000's PC software is worthless to me.
My question is will I be able to fully customize the 4000 by learning all of my remotes, and setting up macros, without using the PC software just as efficiently as the 3100 does? Will I miss out on any functionality? I would GREATLY appreciate any advise or input you guys can provide as I need to make a decision soon in case I decide to return the 3100. I will hold off opening the 3100 until I hear back. Thank you all in advance.

you can use the ax4000 w/out a pc but you will not be able to do a few things such as the Glide maneuvers to execute commands.
you will not be able to setup xpress functions but can mimic them via macros you assign to other buttons..
