I cant belive it. Out of the dozens of Sony products I have bought over the years, I finaly got a dud. I curently have been using the AV3000 for the past 3 years, and even after reeding all the message's on this board I went ahead and baught one. First of all if you own a 3000 I would defently upgrade. The screen is 100 times better in clerity, and the buttons are larger on the screen so that it is eisier to use. Also the big plus is the cool blue back lighting. It is like a giant Timex indiglo, which ranks high in the cool factor. I see a lot of messages complaining about the programing time. THATS the fun of having a powerfull programable remote.

I orderd mine through BUY.Com. $140 with next day delivery ( I hate waiting). I was so excited to get programing the new remote. Unfortunatly my remote would not recive or recognize any signal that was sent to it. No matter how many different remotes I used, or various buttons, angles, distances, my new remote would not learn their signal. This left me ded in the water using the software, sence you must read the remote during the wizard before you can do any of the configuring. I worked with it for 3 hours and nothing worked. All I would get is the 2 beeps, and NG flash. I tried unpluging it from the computer and doing it manual from remote to remote. Nada. Finaly I called Sony tech support. They spent 2 hours having me try the same things I have done for the past 3 hours and nothing worked. I reset the remote to factory settings 4 times, and nothing would work. They were helpfull and polite, and finaly gave me a w/o number to return it to their Texas facility . I decided to return it to them instead of the web site I ordered it from ( they were closer, and they promised they would send me a brand new one for a replacement.)

I hope my replacement will come soon, as I have stated I hate to wait. I am wondering if anyone else has experianced an issue with the learning feature of their remote or is mine an isolated case.

Dear Remote,

Alas, no, I don't believe you have a dud. My RM-AX4000 has the same trouble and a cursory Google search will show you that we are not alone. Take a look at the thread in this forum entitled "RM-AX4000 was designed by hydrocephalics" you'll see what I had to go through. You will probably find that your replacement will have the same problem, but persevere... I got mine to read all of my remotes eventually, but each took over an hour on average. It's frustrating, but the remote works well in the end and I suppose that's what counts. Also, I have a promise from Sony that all of the problems I submitted to them, as outlined in the thread I mentioned, will be addressed. They're working on new firmware for the RM-AX4000, improving the programming software, adding codes for TiVos and so on, or so they promise.

The thread in question is here:

Dear Remote,

I forgot that some of my hints are in another thread... Look at:

And look for my reply regarding finding the proper distance and timing.

Regards,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff, I will try and excesize more patiance when I recive my replacement. After reading some of the threads I may have jumped to conclusions that it was defective. I just know that my 3000 did not have any dificulty reading signals - so I assumed that the 4000 would work the same.

Thanks again,
Rick

I have an Sony STR-DA333ES receiver and the AX4000 remote. Just spent 2 hours on the phone with Sony support, four different people all reading from scripts. None of them apperently have any actual experience on with the remote.

Although the Remote Editor says I can program upto four signals per key I can figure out how to do it and neither can Sony. I loaded the standard receiver information in the Remote Editor, most of the keys work alright. I went to "S. Field" to program it to do 'Sound Off' then 'Sound On'. [As the Learn+ dispalys say in the Help File]

The remote will accept the first code and the Editor says Learn Code (1), when I tell it to learn the second code the learn code changes to Learn Code (2) .... fine but only one code works. ie, after putting in the second code the sound field is turned off when I press the key.

Any suggestions? Whats going to happen when I try to program the scroll selections from the orginial RM-LJ302 remote.

Does anyone know if Sony has some type of compilier [ like Basic ] so we can select the product and insert the a named code, the download to remote would send the proper information?

I cant belive Sony Support. I shiped my remote to their Texas facility and was recived there on Oct 25th. I have called them over a dozen times, and have been transfered to the 2nd tier 3 times and still have not gotten any answers. They keep giving me the old line of "Someone will call you within 24 hours". They have said this 3 times and no one calls. It has been 14 days sence they recived my defective remote, and I still have not gotten my replacement as promised. I have delt with poor customer service before out of a company, but none as terible as this. To think I have spent over $4000.00 this year on Sony products and this is the kind of treatment you get. I should have baught the Logitech 880. I have heard a few good coments about their customer support.
Sorry to rant but I am so mad I cant stand it. I will think twice the next time I spend a dollar on a Sony product again.
If you are looking for a remote I would stay clear of anything that has the word SONY on it.

Just thought I would give everyone an update to my saga. Sony finaly called, they said they are not going to offer a replacement. Aparently they are not expected to get any inventory. Not a good sign for ax4000 owners. Lucky for me they offered to send me a check for what I paid for the remote. I tried to get them to enclude the shipping I paid but that was going to need aproval. I told them to send me my check. Tonight I recieved my new remote that I ordered 2 days ago, a Harmony 880. What a cool remote. I think I will like the activities menue better than pushing several buttons just to pres "A" for my DVR. Anyway I gues I will be mostly on the Harmony forum. Thanks to the resposes I recived with the sony croud.
