I have started to hate my pre-amp. Do any of the Sony universal remotes control the TA-E9000ES? The remote that comes with it plows through batteries (both the double A's and the watch style battery inside). That's not the worst problem, when the batteries go, you lose all the settings for your other devices (TV, DVD, VHS) and, it doesn't control my cable box. I'd like a universal that kept all my settings and only requires me to switch the AA batteries.

I checked Sony's website but couldn't figure out if the remotes can control the TA-E9000ES. I'd like to stay under $75 if possible and would love it to have pre-programmed codes.

I feel like I'm asking for too much but I'm about to sell the pre-amp and get a Denon or HK receiver to make life simpler.

According to this this thread, the only way to use a universal remote is to learn everything from the original remote.

You will need a remote with sufficient learning capacity to learn all of the commands. Even with universal remotes, there are many commands that must be learned, but of course in your case everything must be learned.

You can get an RM-AV2500 here for $82.89 plus shipping, a little more than the $75 you mentioned but not excessive.

You can get an RM-AV3100 here for $95.49 plus shipping.

I have the 3100 but either remote will work well. It just depends on what you want to spend and how many features you need.

The files section of this forum has excellent reviews on both remotes.

Thanks, I do have a Pronto 1000 (original model). I think I'll play with it this weekend to get it setup. The problem w/ the Sony is it loses the settings for my Pioneer DVD play, etc. when the batteries die and I can't teach my cable box controls.

I also have a OFA Kameleon. I could just teach it and save the Pronto work. I already works for my TV, DVD, and VCR. I'd just have to teach it the Sony basics (power, switch input, volume) and be done.

A OFA kameleon can only learn about 25 or so commands for the whole remote.

Without the original remote packaged with the TA-E9000ES, will either the AV 2500 or the AV 3100 control the TA-E9000ES? I cannot get my RM-AV2100 to control any functions on the E-9000ES.

I located my TP501E which commands the E9000ES into standby mode as it should and pressing any function key wakes it up, as it should. However, I have been unsuccesful learning this full command into my AV2100.

If the 9000 is on, the AV2100 will put it in standby from the learned command but I have been unsuccesful getting the 9000 out of stnadby mode using the AV2100. No doubt there is a simple solution but being a neophyte at all this I have not been able to break the code.

Any help would be appreciated.

I assume you have learned all the necessary commands to operate the 9000 from the 501 to the 2100, but what you are saying is that pressing any of the function commands you learned will not turn the amp on from standby mode. Is this correct? I am just asking this to see what you have done so far.

I may not be able to help, depending on your answer, and I have read the manuals for the amp and the remote and cannot find anything to help answer your question, so I have to refer you to the experts.

The navitus works with the TA-E9000ES without any learning involved but don't take it off the docking station or it will die!!! Can't live for more than a few minutes off life support.

You have an early model of the TAE 9000 Remote. They were all recalled and you could get a free updated model which does not eat batteries. Sony should be able to send you one.
