I have a Sony RDR-GX7 DVD recorder, and the remote (RMT-D203A) got wet on accident and is garbage now. I was curious if the RMAV3100 had a preset code for it, or if any other universal remote does.

Are you sure you cannot salvage your original remote? Could you possibly take it apart and dry it out?

I am not sure if any other remote has codes for your RDR-GX7, but you can try some. I would try out a Radio Shack 15-2116 or a OFA 8810/8811 at Walmart. Walmart is supposed to have the RM-AV3000 also at around $80. These can be easily returned if they don't work.

Be sure and change your command mode to DVD1. The manual says it is factory preset to DVD3, so if you haven't changed it, you can use the front panel controls to change it to DVD1, since most universal remotes will usually operate in the DVD1 mode, but you could try all of them if one didn't work.

I am pretty sure you will not be able to achieve full functionality with any universal remote, since they usually require some commands to be learned from the original remote which, of course, you can't do, but it is worth a try to see how much, if anything, you can control.

Thanks Ron, I will check those out and hopefully my remote is still somewhat salvagable.

Well, worse come to worse there'a a GX7 setup for the Pronto, which means it'll work with that or a Home Theater Master MX-700...

There are no sony dvd recorder codes preset in any OFA/RS remote. Take your learning remote to a store and borrow the commands.

You can find a list of parts for the RDR-GX7 at the Sony website. The remote is the last item on the page. It's selling for $76.95.
