Hi All -

My AV3000 arrived yesterday and I've been reading through the manual (painful) and surfing through these boards - and I'm curious about something.

The AV3000 System Control 1 is set to turn off all Sony equipment - and System Control 3 is set to turn on all Sony equipment...

Well - these are DEFINITELY using discrete codes - aren't they????

I know when all of my stuff is off, and I press SC1 - nothing turns on - and vice versa for SC3.. So that's why I'm assuming that it is indeed using the discrete power on / power off codes...

Given that - I'd like to move SC1 to SC2 or 3 - easy enough using the copy command (again assuming) - and I'd like to (sort of) move SC3 to SC1 - (just like that layout better.. first button would turn on - second would turn all off)...

BUT - I don't want to turn my VCR and DVD on each time - which is what SC3 does...

So - maybe I'm just stating the obvious here - that everyone else has already said "duh - thanks Sony!" about - but - is there any way to access those discrete codes that ARE already in the AV3000 and use them for different macros?? Like make my own version of SC3 that uses discrete on to turn on the AMP and TV (not vcr and dvd)??

Or do I have to go the whole other route of using another remote and learn these discrete codes back to the the AV3000?? (I already picked up the RS 2104 before I noticed this..)

Seems to me that if these codes are already in the AV3000 we should be able to access them and use them... If this is possible - HOW??

Thanks!! :-)

I found that I had to learn the discretes to another remote, then feed them back to the AV3000 in another location to be used in a macro. I'm pretty sure that's the only way to do it.

Actually - reading further into the manual (page 43) - it looks like they DID include discrete power on for Sony components (which is what i have). So - I can "rebuild" the default SC3 button and have it just power on AMP and TV...
comm off + mute - set - mode - powerOn - component..

Sooooooo - why oh why didn't then include a powerOff?? Geeeeeze... I'm convinced there is a guy locked in a Sony R&D basement somewhere who does this kind of thing on purpose...

:-)

I'm going to have to investigate this a bit further.. because SOMEWHERE on this remote is the "Power Off" - when I hit SC1 - I can see on the LCD and it DOES say "Power Off" (not just Power) - so - I'm assuming (again) that that 'button' already exists on some screen on the remote and I should be able to use it in a macro when I 'rebuild' my powerOff sequence...

saga continues...

Looks like it's NOT possible to copy System Control buttons..

I wanted to copy SC1 to SC2 - then reprogram SC1...

(sc1 powers off all sony devices in it's default state)

Can anyone confirm this?? Is it possible to copy a System Control button to another System Control button??

(i have a RS 2104 if that helps for a workaround) - thanks!!

You cannot copy a System Control function to another System Control button. The sequence is too long to send it to another remote and then send it back to the 3000. It would be practically impossible to capture the discrete code signal from amongst all the other signals. And there is no discrete off button in the 3000; only a discrete on. Therefore, the best method is to go the discrete code route, since you already have the 2104.
Remember, to clear the signals on SC1 and SC3, (the manual is wrong) press Commander off/system key, then the DEL key/sc1 or sc3 key. This will allow you to reprogram them with your own macros.
For a list of discrete codes, and how to use them, go to [Link: hifi-remote.com].

Well, after I sent this, I played with my 3000 and found out that you can use the Power on command on page 43 of the manual in a macro. It still won't get you a power off without another remote, but if you were satisfied with power on only, you could do this. I didn't think it would work until I tested it, but it does work. As marcj said, there is some dummy getting sadistic pleasure in leaving out a key command.

I'm assuming that you have a Sony Reciever, if you do
look at the rec remote, see the green system off button?(it may be a combination of pressing two green buttons at the same time) Anyway if yoiu have this system off function, program it into the 3000 in the SC button of your choice.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

Hmmm... Yes - I do have a Sony receiver - DE935.. It has that funky two-way remote RM-LJ302..

Two green buttons - "System Standby" and AV 1/0

When I hit system standby it turns off only my receiver - and when I hit the AV 1/0 it turns off the cable box (???) and nothing else...

I don't remember ever programming that - anyone know how to reset it to be a system power off?? That'd be great if I could use that to learn to my AV3000!!

go into the setup mode on the 302 remote, select auto power, select on. Now buy pressing the green system off buttons it will turn off all Sony equip.
Also if you press TV, Video 1, DVD, whatefger, it will turn on the correct equipment and go to the right inputs.
