The appendix in the manual lists the preset functions for the various components, and includes "TV Tuner" and "Caption" in the TV section.
However, neither of these functions appear to have buttons or be active in the initial setup. Do I have to program macros for these, or is there some way to just activate or assign the functions to buttons?

If you are using a Sony tv, they would be on the second row of label buttons. Press the tv display on the top of the screen next to the power button to access the second and third rows of label buttons. If not a Sony tv, then it depends on your TV. I assume you are using the RN-AV3000 remote. The table is a general listing, and each individual tv may or may not have these buttons visible and active.
