Changing AV Input to DVD - How to get to DVD input directly?

My understanding is that the TV AV INPUT is just one signal which just cycles from VCR to DVD to VIDEO2 etc each time you press AV INPUT. My question then is how do I configure a macro to take me straight to DVD input?

I could have the macro press TV input 2 times or 3 times to get to the DVD input but that number depends on which channel the TV was when you turned it off, hence it's not always the same!!

I'm sure there is a simple answer here and that I'm missing something pretty basic - would welcome the help.

Thanks.

You didn't say which remote you have, but from your other post, which I will answer there, I gather you have an AV3000. Your AV3000 has label keys which will take you directly to v-1, v-2, v-3 and v-4. If your DVD was on video 3, you would just press the v-3 key. If your DVD was on video 5, you could make a macro using the v-4 key and the tv/video key, which would take you to v-5 no matter which input you were watching. If you were making a macro to take you to DVD and then turn on your DVD, etc, you could just use the appropriate video 1-4 key. From your next post you said you wanted to have 10 channel macros on the TV screen, which would eliminate the direct access to two of the video inputs, but you could keep the two you needed and still have your channel macros.

Sorry about that. I just assumed you had a Sony TV, which I shouldn't have done. The only answer to your problem may be to use discrete codes, which is a whole new ball game. I have written much about discrete codes in this forum, so I don't want to use a lot of space here, but if you will email me I will try and help you all I can.

Ron,

I have a Misubishi TV and I'm trying to program my Sony remote to change the TV input. I read that involves discrete codes. Can you give me some direction on where to get them and then what to do with them?

Thanks for being generous with your time.

Tony

Go to this thread to learn about discrete codes:
[Link: remotecentral.com]. After you have digested this one, go to:
[Link: hifi-remote.com] After you read all about discrete codes, if you have any questions, ask away. It is a little complicated so I don't want to get too deep before you read the FAQ's and look at the site. I looked up the setup codes for the Mitsubishi TV. There are 4 of them, but 0158 is the only one that had disrete codes for video inputs. You will have to get an OFA/RS remote. Load the device code (0158) to any unused component key. Then, press the setup button and the three digits of the code you want to send to the AV3000. The AV3000 will learn the code, and you can use it individually or put it in a macro.

Forgive me for being thick but this is my first journey into the arcane world of remotes! I found a number of codes for Misubishi TV input functions such as Input 1 = 711. Now what do I do with it? Did I understand correctly that I need to buy another remote? Does this apply to all discrete codes? Please illuminate.

Thank you.

As I said, you will have to buy another remote. Then you will have to follow the instructions I gave above. This applies to all discrete codes. There are discrete codes for remotes like Pronto, but they are extremely complicated for me and I do not understand them. These are complicated enough. Basically, you have to have another remote to send the discrete code to the AV3000. The input 1 refers to video 1. The code for input 1 that I found was 199, and these codes run in multiples of 256, so 199+256+256=711. I am curious as to where you found the 711 code. You can get an OFA Producer 7 or Radio Shack 15-2103 for under $20, an investment well worth the price. I get a little long-winded when talking about discrete codes, but that is because they can do so much to enhance the capabilities of your AV3000. Do not be afraid to ask me questions. If you like, you can email me directly and save wear and tear on the forum readers.

on my panasonic I just hit channel + and then tv input 2 times, that takes me from whatever input I am on to the tuner and then dvd is two inputs away. When ever I want to go to the tuner I just hit channel + and then 03 and that always takes me back to the tuner and then to channel 03.
this is all macro'd of course.

That's a really good solution for those who don't want to go the discrete code route. Most newer tv's will go back to the tv input when channel + is pressed, and then the number of times the tv input is pushed is a constant for whichever input you want to go to.
