When I go through the process of setting up a channel macro, it plays the numbers back for me just fine, but when I save it and then try it, the macro only plays back the first and third numbers entered. For example, when making a macro for channel 231 on the STB component, it will play back on the remote "231 enter." But then when I try the new macro, it only plays "21". I've tried over and over, but I get then same thing every time. Any advice?

Channel macros that work fine on a TV will sometimes not work on an STB because the STB is slower at accepting the commands. There are several things you can do to help this on a true macro, but on a channel macro you are limited to 4 inputs, including enter. Try and input the first number into the channel macro, for the second input hit the timer button (I am not sure this will work, if it doesn't, try any button that will not affect the channel changing process), then enter the next two numbers. You will not be able to use the "enter" command on 3 digit channel numbers but the STB will usually accept 3 digits and change the channel without the enter command. On true macros, you can change the interval between steps, but this does not work on a channel macro. Of course, this may let the STB accept the 2 and the 3, but the 1 will not go in, but try different combinations of the "spacer" input.

Nope. That doesn't do it either. It's like this feature just isn't working on this remote. Does anyone else has experience with this? It only records the first and third numbers entered in a three-digit channel number! And pushing the timer button between numbers while recording the channel macro does nothing...

I don't use the channel macro function with my cable box, so I loaded some in and mine does the same as yours. I think the AV3000 sends the signals too fast for the box to accept all of them. The reason I don't use the channel macro is that I have loaded micro-macros to other keys to change the channels. When I did this, I found I had to have a spacer between the key number commands. I took my OFA remote and made a macro, putting any command that didn't affect the cable box (for example, I have VCR controls on the same keypad, so I used one of the VCR buttons to act as a spacer) in between the numbers, as follows: 3-stop-0-stop-1. The AV3000 will accept up to 6 commands so you should be able to do it this way. I also tried a system macro, and by increasing the delay between commands, it worked fine. Looks like there is no simple solution to your problem.

I have ran across this problem on a fewoccasions, some of the 3000's the channel macro works fine, others it doesnt, just do as Ron said and program the channel numbers directly into your relabled buttons.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

Sorry to run this into the ground but I don't understand what you mean by this. Which relabled buttons are you referring to, and what's the best way to do this? Do you mean to use the system buttons (system 4, system 5, etc.) for channel macros?

Okay. 3 ways to do this:
1. Use the systems macros. Make a macro for channel 301 by using 301 and adjusting the delay between commands so that it sends the correct signal to your cable box. Label this button ch 301 or something like that. This is probably the easiest way for you to go.
2. Make a macro using another remote, as described in my other thread above. Teach commands to a square button key, in which case you cannot label it, so you will have to remember what is where, or 3. Teach commands to one of the 12 rectangular label keys available for the component, in which case you can relabel it to show the channel number. The advantage here is the keys are within the component so you don't have to access macro keys, but if you don't want to go to the trouble of using a learning remote, then you will have to use true macros.

The biggest problem I have in explaining something about label keys is that Sony calls every rectangular key a label key and it gets confusing, because there are twelve systems (macro) rectangular label keys accessed by the "more" button, and twelve rectangular label keys for each component which are only learning keys, accessed by pressing the component name at the top of the screen, and twelve more rectangular label keys for Component selection accessed by the "other" button.

Hey, thanks for your patience. They do make it confusing. I'll give it a try.

try using a delay, especially if you are putting in channels with the same number like 221 or 112 or 775 or what ever, I have heard of this working. 2 delay 2 1.
