I bought the AV2000 a week ago and have been quite happy with it--except for the way it worked with my Dish Network satellite receiver (and the fact that you can't override the default button labels). With this receiver, the buttons always required you to hold them down before working. Thanks to Dan Kaps' tip, I found I could program the AV2000 from the receiver's remote with quick taps. That worked well, but then you couldn't hold the button down and have it continue to transmit (you had to press the button repeatedly, which was a pain). Like Dan, I programmed some buttons with short taps, and others with long. Not too bad, really, but, I thought, perhaps I could do better.
First, I tried double tapping the receiver's remote while learning. It actually learned the double tap, and played it back--as a double tap. IOW, pressing the down arrow once on the AV2000, sent two (separate) down arrow commands to the receiver. Ooops, didn't want to do that, but it did prove that the AV2000 can learn multiple commands in a single slot, without a macro (something I took advantage of, for something else). Anyway, not giving up, I decided to try a different Dish Network remote. I have my original (UHF remote controlled) receiver setup centrally, so that I can use it anywhere in the house. This receiver was purchased back in '96 BTW. Knowing that its UHF remote also sent out IR, I tried using it to program the AV2000. BINGO! This worked like a charm, no need to "tap" to learn either. Now the AV2000 works perfectly with my Dish Network receiver. So, if you have, or can get to, a Dish UHF remote (that also sends IR), try using it to program the AV2000.
