i "desperately" need to be able to power my philips cdr870 on and off via the av2000. i cannot learn this function, since the remote that came with the philips does not have a power button. none of the philips codes supplied in the sheet that came with the av2000 work at all.
HELP!!!!!! the sony help line does not have any new code information for me

Are you sure that the philips can even be powered on/off from IR? My Denon CD player can't - it only has a manual on/off toggle switch, impossible to control via any IR.

I am not sure whether it can be powered off via remote. none of the codes that i tried with the 2000 on the option button would do anything to the 870. my fallback position will be to do it via an x-10 module.

Be careful with some CD players - they have MANUAL push-button power switches. If it CLICKS when you push it, or it has an IN and OUT position, it's not remote compatible. If it seems to be an electronic switch, like say the PLAY button, then there's probably a code somewhere.

I had an old denon too that was the same way. What I did was simply plug it into the a/c jack in my reciever it kinda stinks but it will do especially since I don't have to get off my lazy behind to go push the on/off button Just my .02 Kevin
