I already had Direct TV and recieved a good signal off my round dish (between 75-90). I have now added a phillips tivo and bought an oval dish to recieve local channel however I can't seem to hit the Sat at 119. I know I'm at the proper cordinates and have even switched the LNB's on dish to see if one is broke. I'm able to get a good signal off Sat 101 still but not Sat 119. At this point I'm wondering if the built-in multi switch isn't working. The dish is a Terk S23. Any thoughts?

check the cable going from the multi-switch to the LNB, adn see if the center conductor wire on both sides is bent over. if it is, you will not receive any signal

I have installed plenty of these oval dishes. The problem you are having isn’t uncommon. What is happening is you are actually hitting the 101 sat with the wrong LNB. The best way to point the dish is first make sure the mast is plumb and level. Then set the tilt of the dish according to the specs based on your zip code. Once the tilt is set DO NOT CHANGE IT!!! The specs they give you are accurate and if you change it you will never get it right. After you do that then connect your A LNB directly to your receiver, (not the switch) and set the signal meter to the A satellite (119 I think). Now you can start to point the dish. Start from the right and sweep left. The first signal you hit will be the correct one. (I have found that the elevation they give you is usually 1or 2 degrees low). Once you have peeked the signal, go ahead and connect the both the LNB’s to the switch and check the signal. They should be right on. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Rhurston-
Good advice. That's about the simplest way to do it. However, once you have both sats up and running, sometimes changing the tilt can improve overall signal strength. On my dish , it added about 10 points per sat, which has seemed to cut down rain fade quite a bit. FYI-The mast is plumb and level.

Gentleman,
The best way to get the two the 2 satalittes is to use 2 differant round dishes. You get much better signal strength on both and you can cover them as well to alsmost get rid of rain fade all together. I'm a home theater designer/installer in manhattan, ny and we only use 2 round dishes. You won't be sorry.

rhurson, good advice indeed. However with the new Terk dishes (I have on too), the multi-switch is built into the LNB mounting bracket. There is no way to isolate the SAT A or SAT B signal to do as you suggest. I have the same problem. I cannot get any signal on SAT B. I even returned the dish and got a new one in case the swith was bad.
My conclusion is the SAT B is substantially lower in the sky and in my installation it may well be obstructed due to a low ground mounting pole. Some day I'll get around to raising it up higher...

The DirecTivo's have incorrect pointing coordinates for the oval dish. Also, since the DirecTV spot beam satellite is working, the oval is not needed for locals any more.

Quest is right. We have given up on the oval dish. With two round dish's you will never have a problem (with searching for satellite) you can peak each sat without affecting the other satellite.Quest what is the name of your shop? We are also in Manhattan.
