A problem exists when you assemble a new Sony HD-100 satellite receiver together with a HD type TV and a TIVO/ReplayTV or VCR.
The Sony HD-100 sat receiver has an "Output Select" button on the remote and on the receiver front panel which loops through 5 possible output configurations. Only one config. is active at a time. You get only:
1: Composite Video/S-Video/RF out,
2: 480i out on Component Video,
3. "Automatic Adjust" out on Component Video,
4. 1080 out on Component Video,
5. VGA out on VGA connector.

If you don't care to watch high def TV then you can connect the system with video or s-video interconnects, set the receiver to it first output. But then, why have a HD receiver and HD TV?

So if you hook up the TV to the sat receiver with component video leads, as it should be, then the recorder (VCR or network recorder) does not get any signal. What's up with Sony designers here?

Anyway, if anyone knows if descrete codes exist for the Sony HD-100 Sat receiver, then a smart macro could be programmed so that when HD broadcasts are viewed, the TV input and Sat Recv'r output could be "synchronized." And when recording is desired, the system could be synchronized for that.

Do descrete codes exist for the Sony HD-100?

Thanks.

Thanks Gary. Great reply.
I did not purchase the Sony. I am a professional AV installer/designer and sometimes have to install what the shop I work with sells...
Anyway, still looking for a solution. Tried calling Sony tech, but the number is always busy! Probably a zillion other installers calling at the same time to ask how they could make such a blunder.

James,

I'm sure you've encountered other lapses of conciousness of the Sony designers...SEEMS like a great box, huh?

I'm a Sony CIS dealer and have had lots of coversations and sent lots of emails to guys who are supposed to know something about this problem...they don't really...

The word is, and has been for about four months now, that there is some group down in San Diego working on this right now(...in shifts!). If they come up with something, the machines can be automatically updated and the codes released. this whole situation is inexcusable I'm sure you agree.

Reserve your CEDIA bitch time now or take a number.

Jeff

There are many threads in several different forums. Nobody has found them yet. I for one will be very grateful to whomever finally gets Sony to get off their butts and provide this

I am trying to get these as well!!!! NO ONE seems to make a unit that is 100%. RCA's is ok but it has its problems. Sony's has great menues and channel changes quickly but it has not decreet codes!!! Panasonic is a joke! and SO ON.

I am trying to get it to work with Crestron and it just is not happening reliably at all.
