I have the Echostar 4922 receiver although this question probably applies to any Echostar model with the DD optical output. The problem is, each time I change channel the receiver sends out two short bursts of very loud noise when the new channel locks on. I have to remember to mute the amplifier before changing channels. Is this normal or do I have a faulty receiver? In all other respects the digital output is superior to the analog output so I don't want to change back.

I have a Dishplayer and a 6000 both connected to a Kenwood receiver using optical cables. I don't have any noise when changing channels. Do you know anyone with an Echostar receiver with DD out? You could connect it to your system to find out if it is you sat receiver or stereo receiver.

Robert, No, I don't know anyone nearby with the Echostar, however I don't believe the problem is in the stereo receiver because the optical input works fine with DVD/CD. I think I'll discuss this one with Dish Net but at least I now know that they don't all do it - thanks.

I have 4920 with DD out, and I have some problems with sound clicking off and sometimes a loud pop. Have had my reciever for 2 years. Also the DD feed is not that great on certain channels. Meaning the speaker seperation, some channels sound distorted. The speaker indicator shows all 5.1 channels but does not always work. Has to be Dish's signal because my DVD works fine and some channels work fine!

I have a DishPVR 501 hooked up to my amp via an optical cable and there are no noises when changing channels. Sounds like you should get your 4922 checked out.
