I live in Austin, TWC put me on a waiting list for 6 months to get the converter that goes to my tv (WS-65807 Mitsubishi) from my digital cable box. The digital cable box is an EXPLORER, i don't know who makes this box, maybe GI.
WHAT CAN I BUY IN LIEU OF THIS CONVERTER SUPPLIED BY TWC????
PLEASE HELP!

Directv... That box is a patch(I hope) to keep people from dumping cable for satellite to get H/D. Most other H/D boxes will convert everything to the rgb input as opposed to TW boxes where you have to keep switching the input on your tv. Just remember that Directv does not yet carry local H/D, just HBO, 1 ppv, and I think a Showtime channel. You could always erect a 30 foot tower with a wineguard 7080 ant with a rotor.

DirecTV will never carry local HD. They don't have enough bandwidth. They can squeeze two HD channels per transponder compared to about twelve SD channels per transponder. There are rumors that Dish is trying to set up national network HD feed but the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act is currently preventing this.
DireTV's HD PPV is only part time. During the day it is the demo channel. They don't carry Showtime HD. Dish carries HBO HD, Showtime HD, full time HD PPV and a demo channel.
