I switched from C band to DirecTV abour a year ago. I did this because there were a couple of things that I could get on DSS that were not available on analog C-band (BBC America being the main one). I like the fact that channel surfing does not take as long on DSS as it does on C-band (no need for the dish to slew). The DSS gear is cheeper and easier to install.
I am comparing an Analog C-band system (GI Inovation IRD) with DSS. I cannot speak about some of the newer 4DTV systems from GI (I guess it would be Motorola now).
There are more channels available on the C-Band set-up but it will cost you a lot more.

are the more channels worth the extra hassles??.....the only experience i have had with cband is an old system a freind of mine had. i didnt know how good the new systems were, kind of like the idea of an hdtv signal direct from broadcasters, since here in rural arkansas i dont think the locals will be broadcasting in hdtv any time soon......
