I've read in another forum about an adapter for your sat receiver that will provide Dolby Digital sound. Are any of you multi-talented participants of this forum familiar with a product of this nature? Been contemplating an upgrade to AC-3, but Tweeter's will not budge on that $350 price. (local Sony factory outlet does'nt carry it yet)Also, I hear a new rcvr is planned with built-in TiVo. So what should I do? Purchase the adapter and wait for the price to drop for the TiVo availability? Will Replay get involved?

Wayne, If you are asking me, I don't know. Like I mentioned, it was brought up in another forum (membership required) but it would'nt recognize my password in attempts to reply. Thought I would bring it up in this forum. Look what it did for the Cinema 6/7 !

AC-3 satellite rcvr'e that are available:
rca #5451......sony sat-a4, sony a50, hughes
d-45, and the soon to be available e-45's,i.e.,
price from us....d-45 rcvr only w new activation from directv, incl access card...260.00.......e-45 rcvr only w new activation from directv, incl access card...290.00 ....without new directv activation
add +125.00, no upgrade program available yet from directv that i know of ,,,,these are their chargeback rules, not mine.....and if you look hard enough, you might even find them cheaper......the e-45 hughes is as good as if not better than the sony

Let's start over....

Does anyone know of the availablity of the following:

1. A piece of gear to adapt to a satellite receiver which will update that receiver to an AC-3 (5.1) output.

2. An upcoming satellite receiver that has built-in TiVo (or similar service)?

Thanks in advance, Dennis

Did some more searching and found the "adapter" to be a "pro logic rcvr upgrade". Oh well, it did sound like a good idea to me. How about that TiVo or Replay Tv?

1. If you have a DISH Network receiver that has a "High Speed Port" on the back, you can get a Dolby Digital converter for about $70. It provides a coaxial digital output. Bear in mind however that there's not a whole lot on the DISH that's in DD yet (but that'll change like everything).

2. DISH Network has a receiver that has WebTV and has a basic TiVo functionality to it. It is supposed to soon be upgraded with new software that will let its internal hard drive record scheduled programming, like TiVo and RePlay. It, too, has a Dolby Digital output on it - but optical. It's called the DishPlayer.

I don't have either of these devices, just know about them.

These answers won't help you if you don't have/like/want DISH Network, but someone else might have the same question...
