I have had the new 55" Toshiba HDTV ready set for just about 3 months now and recently I have noticed a, hard to explain, a ghost line almost down the center of the tv. This line is really visible when the screen has a lot of white in it. Like when I watch hockey games, it is really in plain view.

Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem at all...before I call up the place where I bought it from. It can also be seen faintly in HDTV mode in watching HDTV channel.

Also...does anyone know what pixel's CBS, ABC, FOX uses in their HDTV broadcasts...I watched yesterday's football game on the CBS HDTV feed, what a picture!!!

When the next game was telecast, Eagles vs. TB, Fox broadcast it in HDTV, but the picture was cutting out etc, not anywhere as good as the CBS HDTV feed!

Vertical or horizontal? Does it move?

Hi Steven,

The CBS feed was great. Only the Ravens/Broncos game was broadcast in HD this past weekend. The other games were not.

The AFC games next weekend, the AFC championship, and the Superbowl will be in HD.

Thanks,
Errol

It is basically one line in the center of the TV and it doesn't move...

I have a Toshiba HD 61 inch TV and I have that same line. I have called the service department that I was told supported my TV, and every time they come out, they say they can't see it. I show it to them and the tell me that it disappears on some channels so they are not sure what could cause it. It is very noticable when using the HD component connections for the DVD player. They blamed it on the cables tha I was using so I sprung $100 for Monster Calbles top of the line but it did nothing for me... Still there. i am VERY curious to see what other responses you get....

I had the tech guy come out two times, second time with some kind of analyzer...but everything showed NORMAL...so I wrote to my electronics store service department and also to the general manager of the store. Their sales manager called me on Friday and they are going to exchange the set for me. Everyone knows it is there, but there hasn't been a fix available for it. Toshiba.ca CEG, useless.

Deal with the sales manager where you bought the set from...as long as it is still on warranty thou!

Steven, Did they say that the line was burned in or what was the verdict of what caused it,,.,,,

No one ever told me what the problem was. Even in the exchanged set, the 3rd one, (2nd one -- no high voltage worked or something, picture didn't come on), still has this line faintly, so I really don't know what to do. Just like Toshiba CEG says, I have a 2 year warranty plus an extra year from where I purchased it from...

I have the same vertical line, a bit right from the centre. Doesn't seem to be burnt in. Only noticeable in certain channels and certain scenes.

I suspect it's from the S-video port. I said this because when I watch using the component video fed from my model 6000 HDTV receiver or the progressive DVD player, or even the composite video in, it's gone. Haven't had the time to test whether it's the TV's S-video or the satellite receiver's.

any other thought?

I called and spoke with the place that I bought it from and complained that this has been going on for some time and they suggested that I call another company to have it srvices. He had the TV parts spread out all over the living room and said that he was going to have to take this matter up with Toshiba directly. He said that it was NOT burn in...wasn't sure what it was but he was going to check on Toshiba's knowledge base and get back with me this week. This for me has been an on-going problem for almost a year now...My line is there on all the Inputs including the HD's. It is not visable as you stated under certain colors but you can see it clearly on the grey colored screens.... I will be sure and post what the outcome is as soon as I get somewhere with it.

My line is visible on any light background scenes, especially visible during hockey games. I did get the set replaced and low and behold, I can still see the line, albeit faintly this time, but I think it will change as the TV gets older, just like my other one.

This line is visible during all my broadcasts, whether it be S-Video, DVD, HDTV.

I have a 2 year warranty on the set from Toshiba, guess I will keep an eye on it!

Steven,

Sounds like you have an AC ground issue in your house. Try putting a (Chetter) ground lift plug on your power cord in the TV, Cable Box, or Sat receiver 9 out of 10 times this will fix the problem. $0.60 at the Home Depot, Gray, in the Electrical department.

This seems to be a real common problem on the Toshiba's but mine is fine. Look up Toshiba on the "Home Theater SPot". There are several threads on this problem.
