Hello - What a great site! Read through some of the posts here and learned alot. Was wondering if I'm going to have to buy a new TV to go High Def? I have a Pioneer Pro-100 Elite. The picture it provides via DSS and DVD is excellent. However, I did get a glimpse of true HDTV from my local retailer - and WOW what a difference. I have gone to RCA's page and checked out the info on the DTC100. It says it will work on analog sets. OK -but whats the hitch? Will I recieve the full 1080? Will my Pioneer be able to display the HD picture? What input is required for use on my Pioneer from the RCA DTC100 - component? S-Video? Any info anyone can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks - Dan

your TV is strictly an anolog NTSC television that can ony display what ever source decoded or else wise 480i. no 480p 720p or 1080i.

The quality will still be very good -- for NTSC -- however you will not be able to obtain the full resolution of HDTV. THe DTC100 offers composite (standard RCA) and S-Video analog outputs.

Wayne/Daniel - Thanks for the information. Daniel, when you say the quality will still be very good - how much better will it be than what I currently see from DSS? I'm just trying to determine if the DTC100's price Vs. performance will be worth the expense in the near future or if I should just hold off until I get the money to buy a true HDTV. Thanks. Dan

Well, it would probably be about the same quality as DVD or a really good program on DSS. You're still being limited to 480 lines vertical, and 720 or so horizonal... HDTV is much improved, but you can't see that unless you have a capable set (something which is still too expensive IMHO to catch on).

I personally don't think it's going to be as good as dvd because Direct TV is not going to be broadcasting a true full spec HD SIGNAL. It's going to be very much pared own to fit in their bandwidth. Also don't forget about bit rates of transmission.

Guys, Thanks again. Think I will just sit back & see how this new HD Sat pans out in the forum of public opinion and just enjoy what I've got now. Have a great holiday. Dan
