By a 3-0 vote, the FCC today expanded by 75% the hours of video descriptions that leading networks and pay TV providers must offer for the blind and visually impaired.

The rules apply only to the top networks, which may change over time. Right now, they are ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, Disney Channel, History, TBS, TNT, and USA.

The extra hours take effect in July 2018.

FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) has notified the FCC that it will be conducting the next nationwide test of the EAS system on September 27, 2017 (with a back-up date of October 4, 2017 – in the event potential real emergencies make the earlier date one that could cause confusion).

I don't know if WUHF and WUTV are among the 14 Sinclair affiliates affected, but they are among the 14 of 30 Sinclair affiliates joined Fox in 1986 while the remaining joined later.

It would be interesting to see WPXJ-DT become Fox in Buffalo.  Canadian cable/sat providers would have to ask the CRTC to pick up WXPJ's signal and possibly drop WUTV and WUHF, but as the article suggested, it could just be a negotiating tactic.

•  Joint venture between Sinclair Broadcast Group, Silver Chalice and 120 Sports.
