The CW Renews all 7 Returning Fall Series
The CW Network once again is giving an early renewal for next season to the bulk of its lineup with pickups for 7 fall series, the four DC shows, Arrow (Season 6), The Flash (Season 4), DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (Season 3) and transplant Supergirl (Season 3); as well as veteran Supernatural, which just keeps going with a Season 13 renewal. Also picked up for next season are praised comedies Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (Season 3) and Jane the Virgin (Season 4), which have brought the CW its first major awards recognition. (The show’s Golden Globe-winning stars
There are no episode order sizes set for any of the shows. Those calls will be made in May when the CW brass set the network’s fall schedule.
During the CW executive session, the CW president Mark Pedowitz said that “certain shows are better suited to be 13, 16 or 18 episodes,” adding that most DC Comics series are designed to go full seasons.
As expected, missing from the list are new CW fall series No Tomorrow and Frequency, whose fate was pretty much sealed when they did not get a back order. It was the first time in the network’s 11-year history that no new fall series received a full-season order. The network will not make a final decision on the two shows until May, so there is a small chance for renewal in case any of them get big traction on Netflix where they will start airing shortly as part of the CW’s deal with the streaming service. (While the linear ratings for both have been underwhelming, Frequency has gotten a decent digital play.)

With the exception of The Vampire Diaries, whose current eighth season is its last, this represents a renewal of all CW returning fall series. Last year, the network made the renewals in March, extending it to a whopping 11 CW series.

The deal, which is expected to close next Tuesday, would make Nexstar one of the giants of broadcasting. Upon closing, it will have 171 full-power stations in 100 markets covering 39% of TV homes, the maximum allowed under FCC rules.

WIVB-DT Buffalo is expected to ad sub-channels!    Look for changes in their news department and logo.

Season four will consist of 18 episodes. Empire is currently in the midst of a three-month hiatus, with Lee Daniels' other music drama, Star, taking over its time slot until March.   For Fox, Empire is the first live-action series to receive a pickup for the 2017-18 season. The series will join animated hits The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers, which have been renewed through season 30 and season eight, respectively.

►    Lee Daniels Confirms There Will Be an 'Empire' Spinoff

If Lee Daniels has his way, there will be two versions of Empire on television.  The co-creator of the Fox hip-hop drama told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday that there would be a second show stemming from the ratings hit.
"We're in talks," Daniels told THR. "We're finally figuring it out. It takes a minute, you know? We just really had to build the foundation of Empire, so we then try to figure out what that B-chorus is."  Pressed for details, Daniels remained mum on whether the spinoff could be for this current pilot season or if it would be a planted episode that serves as a back-door pilot. Also unclear is the firm premise, though there had been talk in August 2015 that a spinoff could serve as a prequel revolving around Taraji P. Henson's character Cookie.
"It could be," Daniels told THR about a prequel series. "We really are in deep talks about it, and we're having all these ideas thrown around to figure it out. But I can officially say that we will be having a spinoff."

From this day forward, Nexstar Broadcasting Group will be known as Nexstar Media Group, now the owner of WIVB-DT 4 BUFFALO.The name change coincides with Nexstar closing on its acquisition of Media General for $4.6 billion in cash and stock just six days after winning FCC approval. The deal swells Nexstar’s portfolio to 171 full-power stations in 100 markers covering nearly 39% of TV homes. The new stations include 15 in the top 50 markets. Those numbers would be higher, except that Nexstar had to spin off 13 stations for $548 million to comply with FCC ownership limits.“The focus of our corporate, station-level and digital teams on local leadership, local vision and local targeting is the foundation of our positive near- and long-term financial outlook.” - Nexstar CEO Perry Sook

ABC has ordered two drama pilots — “Deception” from Greg Berlanti” and “The Crossing” from Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie.
“Deception,”  tells the story of superstar magician Cameron Black, who, when his career is ruined by scandal, has only one place to turn to practice his art of deception, illusion, and influence — the FBI. Black becomes the world’s first consulting illusionist, helping the government solve crimes that defy explanation and trap criminals and spies by using deception. Berlanti, Martin Gero, and Sarah Schechter also serve as executive producers.
In “The Crossing,” refugees from a war-torn country start showing up to seek asylum in an American town. Only the country these people are from is America and the war they are fleeing is 250 years in the future. The local sheriff with a past, a federal agent, and a mother in search of her missing refugee daughter drive the conspiracy-centered story.

NBC has ordered its second drama pilot this season, giving a green light to For God And Country.
Written by Dean Georgaris, For God And Country is described as a heart pounding look into the complex world of our bravest military heroes who make personal sacrifices while executing the most challenging and dangerous missions behind enemy lines.

NBC Orders Interactive Game Show Pilot
NBC has ordered a pilot for a new game show called “5 Gold Rings,”
In the series, based on a U.K. format from “Possessed,” the game is played on a huge interactive LED floor where every pixel counts.
Players get five rings to answer questions over five levels, and while they endeavor to answer questions correctly — matching rings and responses — the rings get progressively smaller, making the game even more challenging.
The show also allows viewers to connect to the game via smartphone, with a mini-version of the LED floor and the questions, so they can play along from anywhere and be part of the experience.
“5 Gold Rings” recently launched in the Netherlands on SBS6 and will air in the U.K. on ITV early this year. Co-created by Possessed and Talpa, it is the first format jointly developed by the two companies. The series will be produced by ITV Entertainment.
