I am in the Brampton, ON area.

This past week I've noticed that as soon as the CTV Nightly news finishes broadcast, CFTO-DT (9.1) goes to "no signal" like clockwork. This happens at midnight almost right bang on.

I've noticed this behaviour for the last two days. Is anyone else noticing this?

Is it practice for digital station to lower their OTA transmission power after a certain hour of the day?

Is there anyone that lives close to CN/Tower / First Canadian place that can continue to receive OTA signal after midnight?

My recordings of the daily show on my mythtv box (homebrew pvr) have been failing for about the past week. Further investigation shows I cannot tune that channel any more past midnight.

The daily show starts at 12:05 am, I get about the first 5 seconds before it dies. I say it's happening about 12:05:05.

I am about 75km's from the CN Tower.

I hope this is not permanent! I need my daily show fix!

If I remember I will try to check it tonite. I am in North York so CFTO is a very strong signal. I have a signal strength indicator that will tell me if the broadcast signal drops after midnite. However, I dont recall CFTO ever being off the air in the middle of the night.

I know for a fact that AM radio stations used to (and maybe still do) change their radiation patterns at night so as not to conflict with other stations. I didnt know that televisions stations did the same thing.

- CFTO is doing significant maintenance at the CN tower
- This maintenance will result in a more robust and stable signal
- Maintenance window is midnight to 5:30am, for 4-6 weeks

It's been up at 100% signal strength for me past couple of nights! Perhaps they are done with the upgrade?
