Just noticed this on my OTA MythTV setup and just thought I'd post the info here that I posted to the Myth list. Still wondering if anyone's had any luck emailing. CTV about issues with the OTA broadcasts.

Here's what I posted on the Myth list:

"I'm recording "The Big Bang Theory" of the CTV network in Toronto. OTA via an HDHR3.

Each time I've gone to watch the show it starts off with descriptive video.

When I look at the audio options in the playback menu, there's:

1: undetermined AC3 5.1ch
2: English AC3 2ch

2 is chosen automatically. When I switch to "undetermined AC3 5.1ch" the descriptive audio stops.

I haven't noticed this issue with any other shows recorded on this channel. Is there any way to set a default so it always starts with undetermined AC3 5.1ch?"

I thought it was a MythTV issue but the best response indicated an issue with the broadcaster:

"I recommend calling the TV station and telling them that only their descriptive audio stream is labeled with the language.

MythTV chooses to play the stream with the best audio that matches a language you speak. When an audio broadcast does not specify what language it is in it goes to the end of the line.

I am quite certain the station engineers will want to fix this problem quickly. Assuming you reach one and they believe you. If this is a new problem they can probably get their new PSIP device vendor to jump on it."

I think the operative phrase in his response is: "Assuming you reach one and they believe you."

Too bad we don't have some engineers from CTV lurking here.

CTV's audio has been wonky ever since I got my HDTV two years ago. The cover on the remote is worn out from sliding it open so often to switch SAP settings.

Rec'd an email this morning from a CTV engineer who said the issue was being fixed. So, fingers crossed.

Update: had two mails from an engineer. So far I haven't been able to see the changes on my end.

Still facing this issue...engineer said it was fixed but it's still the same. Drives me crazy since MythTV chooses to play the stream with the best audio that matches your language.

Got this response today from one of the broadcast engineers at CTV after I sent them PSIP info from tsreader:

"We are looking into your observation about the missing language descriptor. Thanks for pointing it out."
