Hi,
I am thinking about going to antenna because the cable bill is getting to high.
I would like to get the most stations as possable.
Which one of these two antennas are better for me? And what is the difference between the two?

Digiwave ANT-7288 360 Degree Adjustable Multidirectional Super 8 Bay HDTV Antenna
Channel master (CM-4228HD) 8 Bay EXTREMEtenna- HDTV Antenna

Here is my distance the HDTV transmitter locations,
Toronto CN Tower: 31.6mi (50.9km)
Buffalo Grand Island: 29.7mi (47.8km)
Buffalo South (ABC): 57.5mi (92.5km)

Also how would I install the antenna and what parts do I need?
And also the parts I do have is CM-3412 Distribution Amplifier.

Are you in a house? Do you have a TV tower already? Can you put a tripod on the roof? As for antennas, I'll let others chime in as I'm not using either. I do however know the CM4228 is a popular model.

I've had better luck with the Digiwave. I'll be swapping out a CM4228 for a digiwave when the weather gets better.

Why is it better? because you can "flip" one half so that it's pointing in the opposite direction; allowing you--from the Niagara area to catch Buffalo with one half and TO and Hamilton with the other.

I'm getting 26 channels with it on a 30 foot tower and a drop amp.

Yes I am in a house, I do have a TV tower already but it maybe to unstable to do any work on. Also I am thinking of putting my new antenna on the roof (CM4228HD or what ever)

I do like the fact of the Digiwave that lets you fold the sides but I think the 2nd and more newer version of the CM4228 (the one with the HD at the end) lets you fold the edges to get either more distance gain or a bigger range.

I hope this is not true! Enough with chinese making this monsters! and people spreading this ...... but on top of that Channel Master following suit!, no way!, it can't be true!

The one ending in HD is a newer redesigned version but never did , does not and never will allow its sides to fold in different directions , well ..... not unless Channel Master is sold to the chinese!. Channel Master is a prestigious American company that does not manufacture this foldable Frankeinstenna!. The Americans are worldwide known for making 2 things better than anyone else on the planet and 1 is their antennas.

good question. you are relatively close to buffalo (i tried a cm4221HD at ground level 4-5 ft and got every major US netw, from mississauga) so the 4221 should fit you. It has double beamwitdh (45 degrees) of its syster 4228 (basically the same antenna horizontally stacked) but might give you problems with CTV once they switched back to VHF 9 where 4228 will have better gain at hi VHF frecuencies.

How many TVs? , If Only1kenoby (only 1, lol) then consider 4228/motor combination to be safe for ch 9 CFTO (there is also ch 7 WNGS now I think) and you could rotate it for DX pourposes.

If more than 1 TV (you mention a dist amp) then I would consider an omnidirectional solution (high gain antennas are highly directional , low beamwitdh) coupled with a pre-amp at the antenna (no rotor) (kind of UFO sold by radio shack). Or some kind of antenna that has a low front-back ratio (like a yagui with a 1 element reflector) so it will allow some signal coming from the back for long island and south buffalo ones while having enough gain from Toronto if pointed to CN tower (no rotor).

As you can see I probably gave you more questions than answers, a practical aproach would be to read more on forums from users who live in your city and their experiences or like a Cuban would do just walk around the neighborhood and politely ask the neighborgs who have outdoor antennas about their experiences.

Well I only have 1 TV that is going to the antenna, if the cable goes up to much then there would be 2 tv's. I have a disto amp that has 2 outputs just in case I need to put in the other tv. One person on another fourm said that the Antennas Direct 91XG is better then the CM4228 because of more gain. I do want to be able to get the WGRZ feed (2-1, 2-2, 2-3), CBS (4-1), ABC (7-1) CW23 (23-1), the WNED feeds (17-1, 17-2, 17-3) and also the My TV feed and The Cool TV (49-1, 49-2), also WUTV (29-1, 29-2). And hopefully ION (51-1, 51-2, 53-3).
As for the Canadian networks CFTO (CTV 9-1), CHCH (11-1), CKXT (66-1), OMNI1 and 2, CBC (5-1)
If I can get more than great :)
Also would it be possable to get the Rochester stations?

I know (Antennas is a full 1 year class for Telecomm Eng back in Havana) that is why the practical aproach of asking around or closeby posters on forums is not a bad one IMO. Too many variables and choices and also important there is no better antenna , it all depends on the particular application, all variables have to be taken into consideration.

91XG is a high gain antenna and as you can tell from the pictures it has lots of director elements therefore it is highly directional (25 degrees beamwidth) also note the reflector is a mesh V shaped reflector therefore it has a high front-back ratio so it will kill signals coming from the opposite direction , you will need a rotor to use this and therfeore is suitable for a 1 TV solution and DX'ers.

Once you see the superior picture quality of this HD OTA signals compared with cable or satellite pay services you will more likely end up cancelling it and probably requiere a multi-TV solution.

I get all those 24x7 (except CHCH, ION, NBC they depend on weather/day but you can not rely on it, I use a 2m Dish for those except CHCH I dont care) with a 20 dollar monoprice.com antenna, small, white, with amp in it and easy to install, suitable to distribute to several TV. I could not beleive its performance despite its small profile and rather simple looks. So easy to install too and has a bendable small plastic pole that allows you to install it to any surface. It is outdoor on the wall , 9 ft , and feeding 3 tvs in Mississauga.

I might just get the 91XG, rotor and a pre amp. That should be good enough right?

more than enough!, a pre amp will be overkill you are not that far away besides the 91XG is UHF only I think , remember CFTO will go to ch 9 in august. I would ask around in the neighborhood but I am a cuban I guess. A 4228H/rotor seems to be the best route.
