Hi Rich here from Lockport N.Y im the antenna business guy! Does anyone know if CKVR in Barrie has made the switch yet? We vacation alot up that way and i watch 3 analog regularly bu havent seen anything of their digital signal as of yet. Im sure it could be because of distance ,but then again i have a 10 ele high band yagi with amp at 80' so i think i might see it sometime.
Thanks Rich

Nope, not yet. Typically around here local channels go HD on cable before OTA (ie. currently TV Ontario, and previously many others), but there's been nothing from CKVR yet.

thats what i thought! i guess they and TVO will be some of the last to go? sorta wondering about all the low powered translators of channels in Canada. I know here some are still on the air in analog as well as some home shopping junk!

They will probably wait til the last minute; cheap blighters

I watched the Buff Bills in TO on Sunday afternoon.
I get my TV OTA from Fox 29(14.1) the image looked a bit muddy. I think they were using analogue e/q to make the image... the CBS game's image on WIVB 4 looked very sharp; much better than the Roger Centre images.

Think about how many small analogue transmitters that TVO has to change, and you can understand why they are waiting until the last minute. I've found in my installation travels in Ontario that (besides Toronto and Hamilton) the only networks that have switched full-time are SUN-TV. I'm assuming there will be a lot in transition next spring and summer - which is why I opened The HD Antenna store at 881 St. Clair W. in Toronto last week. Come visit whenever you're in the city.

Actually, TVO only has to change 6 in mandatory markets. I understand they will transition about 3 more transmitters since they are in the 52-69 channel range that must be vacated. The rest will stay analog for the foreseeable future. Now all they need is the provincial government to give them some money. Yup, they've known since May 2007 that this was going to happen in Aug. 2011 and they still don't have the money (not sure they've even submitted the request yet). Brilliant management!

From what I understand, pretty much a done deal that CKVR won't be digital until Sept. 1 next year.
