For last few days I am noticing signal loss in Mississauga area on certain channels, specially WIVB (mostly gone) and 1 or 2 others. This will be my 1st winter with year with OTA reception, so just wanted to know if cold temps have any effect on channel reception? or is it something else on my end.

Thanks.

Ch. 11 has come back in downtown Toronto. It disappeared for the summer.

My reception typically improves greatly in winter.

im sure its not weather but more foliage being gone from the trees. Also in the fall or spring you can get days ( warm days cool nites) wher inversion will cause an increase in signals all the way around!

I agree with the last poster. I'm in Caledon and get all the Buffalo south stations all year, day and night.

WIVB is currently on a backup transmitter at reduced power (most of this week).

CHCH also had problems this week and was complete off OTA but is now up and running.

I was getting WPXJ and WNGS during the summer weather.
Like the feathered friends, they will be back in the spring.

Ranaji, I know this was not on your thought radar, but it's not out of the question that a problem you'd think is your antenna is, instead, the station. Did you notice a particular weather change or pattern that coincided with the reduction of WIVB signal? We all need to refresh our understanding of co-incidence (shown separated to heighten the meaning) as opposed to causality.

CHCH also had problems this week and was complete off OTA but is now up and running.

Again, we'd probably assume it was our own antennas at fault.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks. Makes sense, since I suddenly cannot receive WIBV and it had full strength the week prior. I was fairly certain the issue must have been with the station since I'm still receiving WKBW at full strength and it is further away with a slightly less powerful transmitter.

How did you come to know they were on a backup transmitter?
Thanks for sharing.

I also notice better reception in non-Summer months.

Plus like other posters I can't get WIVB (4) last week or so.

Yes, WIVB is the only channel that I am missing, I think if it was my antenna I should've seen reception difference on other channels too.

I lost WIVB and sent an email to ask them why I lost their signal since they are my strongest station, they replied that they had powered down to work on their main antenna.
They came back up on to full power on Friday Nov. 5 went back down on Sunday Nov. 7 and our still powered down as I write this. But hopefully they will be back soon.

Just got following reply from WIVB engineer.

We had problems with our transmit antenna recently and it had to be repaired. We have been back on the air at full power since Saturday, November 20th. You may need to do a rescan on your TV set or converter to receive us again.

Why a re-scan if the issues were power related, I wonder. Maybe just to make sure there were no other issues with the viewer setup I guess.
