Here is the story.
[Link: cablevision.com]

It's been about 3 wks so far.

Here is my question: Is it possible to use an inexpensive indoor HDTV antenna for this channel in conjunction with the cable box for the others?

I have a few ideas, but if the answer is no then I wouldn't bother.

Sony XBR4 TV

I'm missing all the games.

Instead of asking me why my price is high ask the other guys why they are low.

You won't be able to do anything with the cable box, but you probably would with the TV, assuming it has an ATSC tuner (which I believe it does) and you're reasonably close to the broadcast tower.

What TV input is the cable box feeding into? If it's using the coax in, you could try adding an inexpensive coax switch between the TV and the sources. If it's going into anything else, you should be able to run the antenna directly into the TV.

The contract for Dish Network to carry Local FOX stations expires on November 1st. It will be interesting to see what happens; they already dropped the very popular FX Network, National Geographic and MSG, over what else...money.

Dish refuses to pay more to carry these channels.

I really hope he doesn't have an HD box feeding an HD television using the coax input. ;-)

No. I have a Denon 4308 that everything runs through, so the coax is open.

I wonder how many people are doing that for real? I would guess plenty (funny, but not, all at the same time :-) :-(

I guess I could listen to FOX through the TV speakers. Ouch!

I really don't know how to set up AVR using an antenna.
Are their any other reasons to use both an antenna and a cable box?

Switching from Receiver to TV will work, I think. Its going back where the complications begin. I can't (don't want to) add a receiver input command to all my favorite channels. Back to Cable button somewhere I guess. I'm sure there are other changes that would have to be made as well

The more I think about it, the more complicated it becomes. Lot's of opportunity to foul up the whole system.
It was just an idea for a temporary fix. I'm going to Try, repeat, Try, to look at it as a fun project rather than a necessity.

How about this antenna.

I'm not sure where the broadcast tower is 30 miles at the most?

If the dispute get's settled there is no sense continuing (for me), but the info may come in handy.

feed the OTA tantenna to the TV UHF/VHF input. then run an SPDIF cable for digital audio from your TV out (most TV use optical but it could also be a coaxial digital audio out) to your Denon Digital audio IN (it has both kinds , either coaxial or optical).

But then if you want to watch that TV channel OTA you have to switch the TV to TV mode (OTA antenna tuner) and also switch the Denon to the input that you assigned for that digital audio connection you made. hope it helps.

More importantly I hope FOX and Cablevision reach an agreement, I beleive they did with Dish Network recently.

...whoops, the "HDDVR" part of the cable box model number went right past me!

It looks like I'll have to find another project. They have settled.

I was just thinking, I should have picked up the antenna today.
Hey, at least I learned something.

Thanks for the input.
