I just bought a new TV - Vizio XVT553SV and ordered COX cable. The COX guy came and set everything up including the COX remote to operate the TV.
So my COX remote is operating the TV controls. But I want it the other way around i.e. my TV remote to control COX- which can be done as per the manual.
I tried following the instructions, but nothing was happening. So, I called up Vizio customer support and the guy said that since the COX remote was programmed before and there's only 1 code, i won't be able to program my TV remote to control COX- till Vizio comes with some update.

Has anyone encountered such problem? Can anyone suggest a solution?

Thanks,
GG

Look at the Cox cable box. Probably it is made by either Motorola or Scientific Atlanta, although there could be other brands.

Once you have the brand and model number of the set top box, look for that brand in the Vizio remote setup menu, and see if you get response that way.

If not, post the info here. Maybe we'll have some other ideas.

The Scientific Atlanta Explorer series all use the same IR protocol, and the various Explorer boxes are used by nearly every US cable company. So I would try any setup which is associated with a cable company.

I'm not familiar with the latest Vizio remotes. Previous high end Vizio remotes were made by UEI, and used UEI setup codes. If you can use setup codes, then one of these setup codes should work: Cable 0277/0477/0877/1877

While using the device setup on the TV, it says it is attempting codeset 109( 1 of 1). That obviously is not working out. It also has an option of manually entering the remote code- but its a 3 digit code. So I guess I am stuck !!

On the set up screen, When it asks about the brand of the cable, choose Scientific Atlanta. This will give you 8 possible codes. I have the same TV and it worked for me. I also have Cox cable.

Again, DON'T choose Cox for the cable brand.
