Hey fellow forum members:

I've been seeing these "UFO-on-a-stick" style antennas popping up everywhere, and I'm wondering how good they are.

Does anyone in the Niagara area, more specifically St. Catharines area, have any experience with these "omni-directional" antennas?

I know there are two models: one with an internal rotor and one without. The range is 45 miles and the thing comes with an amp built in, but at Radio Shack (the Source)it sells for $199.99.

Channel Master has the 3000A, Winegard has the Metro Star and Antennacraft has the Omnistate, the range doesn't look that good on these though, only 30-45 miles...

Any info is appreciated.

I have one [amplified] but am not happy with the performance, it is strange. It won't pickup WNED, unless it[the tuner] is being swamped, where the indoor one does at 87-93%.
Yet as reported elsewhere I can sometimes get Cleveland, Erie PA and Rochester on it.
Frustrated with reception of CH-DT and it has been two months since I grabbed CFTO-DT, forcing me to go down to the analogue to catch Steward/Colbert.
Should've gone conventional.

Generally I don't recommend them. About the only thing they have going for them is the compact size. Not much use for long distance reception.
