Hello to all.

A week ago I was partaking in water fountain talk with a colleague at work and learnt about getting high def with an OTA antenna for the first time. I read thru this forum and others and it seemed the general consensus was that a CM 4221 was the way to go and opinions split about clones.

I was able to pick up a clone for under $25 and in under 5 minutes was getting high def and was able to watch hockey, baseball and NFL in 1080i HD last weekend. Awesome.

The HD channels I am getting are:-
14 WUTV
20 CBLT
23 WPXJ - ION, qubo and ION Life
26 WYNB
32 WNLO ( also on 49 )
33 WGRZ
34 WNYO
38 WKBW
39 WIVB
43 WNED

I really want to get CTV and Global so this past week this is all I have been doing after work but cannot get anything . . . nada.

I am confused as I can get CBLT which is from the CN Tower so I assume I am pointing in the right direction for CFTO and Global, also on the CN Tower.

Also, since I am in Oshawa, the Buffalo channels are further that the Canadian channels for me yet I am getting all of them loud and clear.

Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong or are the CTV and Global signals that much weaker.

The Canadian channels are ALL very weak. CBC is actually the most powerful. You need careful aiming and a good preamp.

Hopefully that will change in the future when most stations are expected to increase power?

I have my own issues getting CKXT and CIII. Total shame to be honest, if I can recieve Buffalo channels better than my own local ones.

Perhaps you can try aiming away Buffalo slightly and towards the CN tower. Actually, things should be alot easier seeing as Buffalo and Toronto aren't as far apart.

use TVfool.com and enter your co-ordinates to obtain precise antenna aiming.

I assume you're using it outside? You might need to get it a little higher.

Thanks for the suggestions. My antenna is outside. Based on the weather it looks like it will be a while before I start re-aiming it.

You're gonna need a rotator. CN Tower is 90° away from ION. The side of the antenna is the worst for reception so I'm guessing you'll need to spin it to net all channels.

Oshawa is a good location for OTA television. With a preamplifier and reasonable antenna height you should be able to add Rochester & Hamilton stations to your set.

Far away OTA signals can be viewed when weather/atmoshperic conditions permit. Last night I was watching Erie PA from Caledon, about 200 miles.
