Hi guys I bought a new HDTV 3 weeks ago ( SHARP LC-52SB55U).I live in Scarborough Please note that this tv is NOT AN AQUOS as stated by many retailers. My problem anyways is that once I took the tv home and did the channel setup, I got all the ANALOG channels AND i also got a lot of DIGITAL CHANNELS(70.1,70.2,134.5 etc) only one or two promotional video channels but lots of radio channels(WITHOUT ANY ANTENNA, JUST TV CABLE HOOKED UP).
However the tv started to shut itself off repeatedly and having a warranty, a sharp guy came over and changed a circuit board(dont know real term). After this I did a factory reset and rescanned the channels, ANALOG AND DIGITAL but I AM NOT GETTING ANY DIGITAL CHANNELS AT ALL NOW.The digital channel numbers .1,.2 etc do not show up in the channel list and the guy tells me that the channels depend on Rogers to show up, is that correct? Why did I only lose all digital when he changed the board?Aren't the digital channel numbers supposed to show up regardless if you have any antenna or digital box or signal since the tv is equipped with built in ATSC/QAM/NTSC TUNERS?
The tv's control info and options has changed also, it now says it's a D85 AQUOS MODEL which it's not.The tv was still shutting off afrter he changed the board but it has stopped doing so for a couple of days now.
Thanks a lot for all replies.

Are you sure when you scanned the last time you also included the clear QAM tuner?. Maybe it has an option for you to select whether to scan Air + Cable or also Analog and Digital as well. Other than that I dont know what elses to think. At least Rogers always have a few digital channels in the clear. And even the D85 Aquos Series also has a Clear QAM tuner, so. Try again.

I am assuming there is no filter on the cable line now that is supressing the digital channels. Depending on the kind of cable programming you subscribe to there might be a filter installed outside at the cable box.

Hey hd fan thanks for the reply. here's what, I did as you said and rescanned the channels(I have rescanned about 10 times already),also there is no FILTER on the cable line. The menu allows you to select AIR or CABLE, after choosing CABLE it asks if you want to search ANALOG AND DIGITAL CHANNELS
ANALOG CHANNELS
CANCEL
This part is as same as the old card and I would choose ANALOG AND DIGITAL CHANNELS always, which at first had brought in so many digital channels. Now it's not finding ANY, NOT A SINGLE ONE.
I am beginning to think that at least the QAM tuner is not working on this card,as you said and I know, there are always some channels that would come in if you have the tuners.
So what do you think? ( Thanks a lot)

Your Welcome. I agree with you , more likely , the QAM tuner is defective on the replacement board. Call Sharp or the Company who did the replacement.

Thanks hd fan, the tv has started shutting off itself again from yesterday, so the problem is apparently not that board. Once I contact the guy I'll explain to him what I think and suggest he replaces the old board.
I'll update.
Thanks

If I were you I would return the TV altogether back to the store. most brick and mortar stores have such a policy for this cases with in the first to 3 months. get a new one.

Unfortunately I did't buy it from one of those stores,I bought it from a logistics company who does business with those kind of stores and for whom I work, and they said I should contact SHARP. My first purchase from there/maybe last.
The repair guy has since not returned my calls after I questioned him about the loss of the channels,he was supposed to continue to be my repairman.I wonder why? Maybe I asked too many questions?
I am going to contact Sharp now.

There's clearly a competence issue on the part of the technician.

The guy at Sharp said that they will contact the repair guy and let him know that I am still having the problem.I said that I already told him that 4 times and he hasn't returned my call . He then called his Manager (I think) to speak to me and when I told him of the digital channels, he said that rogers sometimes deliver the channels and sometimes they do not. It doesn't mean that the qam tuner isn't working. I then asked him how would I know if it is working or not? and why did I only loose the channels after the card was changed. He didn't have an answer to that, and suggested that I am misinformed about how the Qam tuner works.HE ALSO SAID THAT TECHNICIANS DO NOT LIKE TO BE QUESTIONED A LOT, THEY ARE THERE ONLY TO REPAIR THE TV AND THAT I HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS SAME GUY SINCE THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY OTHER TECHNICIANS IN MY (CITY). I DONT BELIEVE THAT.
From what I am seeing here I have major problems and I am thinking this repairguy will take his sweet time.
The guy at Sharp said that they will replace the tv only if they cannot fix the problem.I don't have any idea of how long that will be for them to find out.

Mediocres do not like to be questioned a lot , Geniuses on the contrary do not mind at all. I think you would see why, no?.

Hopefully someone who lives also in Scarborough will kindly report if there are now at least some clear QAM channels, just to confirm 100% but like I said more likely there is at least 1 channel in the clear. Otherwise how would you test the box without even authorizing it. Heck , even XM Radio has a free preview channel that you can listen to without authorizing the radio just to confirm you get a signal and the radio works ok.

Hey guess what, didn't get to update since I left for work right after I made that post on Wednesday.Apparently the guy I talked to at Sharp got pissed of and called the repair guy right away and gave him shit, because my wife said that as soon as I left the driveway, the repair guy called and said that he was SICK and that he wanted to pick up the TV the next morning and take it to his shop. My wife told him that we would be out that morning(Thursday 29) and he decided to pick it up right away.
This is the first person I know who cannot give a callback(1MIN) because he was sick on four different occasions(HOW STUPID PEOPLE THINK WE ARE SOMETIMES.) However he called me on Friday morning and asked me if the tv SHUTS OFF WHEN ITS HOT OR WHEN IT'S COLD?,I said I never really paid attention to that but it shuts of everytime I turn it on. God help me!!!!
hd fan I do hope that someone can post the Qam channels too.
OH, AND THIS GUY NEVER SAID HE WAS SORRY FOR NOT RETURNING MY CALLS.It's a good thing I have learned over the years to keep my cool.

I'm fairly certain that Rogers' digital signal is generally the same across southern Ontario. The digital channels I get in Markham are exactly the same as in Beaverton, which is saying something. So what's Clear QAM in one area SHOULD be available in another (although perhaps on a different frequency). Which is to say, the Rogers Clear QAM list on this site should be accurate.

However I'll go do a scan and see.

Also it's possible the error is merely in the service menu - the set hasn't been told it has a digital tuner (generally a series will use the same software/firmware and in many cases even the exact same hardware, it's just how it's configured that tells it what features it should have).

Hey Daniel, the technician said that it is the right card for the tv,it's just that it is an improved one . They said that the D85 INFO in the menu is an ADVERRISMENT ONLY to show consumers the difference between 60hz and 120hz. In the menu though also, there are options for digital selection but any such selection is inaccessable since they are faded out, so you may be right.
I am sure though that there is no such activation option in the menu as I have gone through it thoroughly.
After the guy took took the TV on Wednesday he called on Friday and said that he had REPLACED THE OLD CARD since that was not the problem and I had asked him to do so. I haven't asked him anything about the channels though as yet.

Hey guys ,after the tech replaced the old card I did get back all the digital channels, about a week later he fixed the "shutting off" problem, he said it was some kind of module with the power control unit or something like that. I had to call him though after he didn't call me for a week after he picked up the tv.
All in all things worked out fine and thanks to all you guys for your help, I appreciate it.
