I'm at a loss, I can't find any reference to this problem anywhere. Maybe I'm the first person it's happened to, maybe I'm just special that way.
This is the remote Time Warner gave me:
[Link: urcsupport.com] (of course the troubleshooting section in the manual doesn't have an explanation for this.)
I installed a Next Generation RF Remote Extender a few weeks ago (
[Link: amazon.com]) and it was working great until a couple days ago.
Typically whenever a button is pressed, the button for the active function (VCR, DVD, CBL, TV, etc.) blinks once. Now whenever a button is pressed on the remote (ANY button), the active function button blinks once, followed by a pause, then the Cable function button blinks SEVEN times.
The extra flashing lights would be fine with me, except this behavior appears to be accompanied by limited functionality; while every button press causes the CBL flashing, it only transmits a signal intermittently. I have to keep pressing the same button over and over again to get any of my devices to do anything.
This intermittent functionality appears to apply both to the IR transmitter native to the remote as well as the RF transmitter I installed.
At one point, the cable light just started blinking non-stop. I removed and replaced the batteries and it hasn't happened again.
Removing the RF transmitter battery and replacing it with a regular AA fixes the problem, so the problem either relates to the integrity of the rechargeable battery in the transmitter or the transmitter itself (and since everything was working fine with the transmitter until recently, I have to assume it's the battery), but I only have the one battery so I don't have any way to testing which is the problem for sure. My question is, is this behavior documented anywhere, or has anyone had any experience with it? It's so consistent that it has to be by design, and if it's really as simple as a low battery indicator, why can't they just document that in the manual?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
