Since the recent software download on 9/15 -- 0x34c, the playback of recorded shows has been riddled with glitches, specifically, the screen freezes momentarily. I believe this to be a software glitch, and not a hard drive issue for two reasons:

1) When I use the 7 second jump back to view the glitchy part again, the error does not recur
2) The same thing happens on my identical model HDDVR in the bedroom

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and is there any information on whether Direct TV is doing anything to fix it?

I too had the same issues with my HR20. DirecTV told me to reset the receiver then call them when it happens. I explained that it was on the recorded shows and questioned how resetting the receiver would help. They said that was their policy and couldn't assist me if I didn't play by their rules. On October 22 my 2 years were up. I dumped DirecTV. Here's the interesting part. Now all of a sudden the guy I'm speaking to about canceling my service wants another chance to fix the problem. He thinks that the transponders need to be replaced and asked if he could schedule an appointment. I said NO WAY, they had enough chances to fix it. I don't think they have a clue what is going on. Good luck to you.

Many people have reported this issue. The new software release had a set of new diagnostics to check the disk for failures. No-one is quite sure whether the diaagnostics are causing the problem, or whether the problem indicates the disk is in the early stages of failure.
And to snorkiepetro - the tech would have a major problem changing a transponder since they are on the satellite 26000 miles above the equator!

I noticed there was another recent software download. Now, TV APPS seems to have disappeared. The playback issue seems a little better, but not perfect.
