Welcome Joe. Indeed the receiver , which BTW is made by a Dubai company (Strong and Co) with a Japanese origin apparently, could be used to receive free to air or in the clear Digital Satellite (DVB-S format) signals. The problem is that apparently they only cater to the Asian/Australian and African markets therefore their receiver only outputs in PAL format. As per the Specs taken from Strong website you will see that at the end it says PAL modulator and does not mention NTSC which is the NA standard. Unless you have a TV that can also handle PAL signals then I beleive it will be of no use to you. Even the TV IN/OUT (21 to 69 UHF) connectors are the Eurpean PAL conectors instead of the F-Type conectors we use here. Radio Shack sells an adaptor for 7 CAD each aprox. BTW it is identical to my Coolsat 6000, only the brand name is different.
For more info on the FTA satellites for NA hobbyiests visit SatelliteGuys.Us. But in general you will need a 36" Dish , the pansat LNB will be fine as long as it works in the 11.7 - 12.2 GHz Ku Range (I could not find info on a PS 100 model but I would assume it is universal and therefore covers from 10.7 to 12.7 Ghz to cover the european spectrum, check it again). For programming info check
www.Lyngsat.com or The List on the previous website I mentioned.
